i just got back from mephis, from maryville. on rt. 40 i stopped at two different rest stops, not sure of location, both were posted with a circle with a gun and a slash. by the time i saw the sign i had already climbed the hill. i was wearing a light shirt over a t shirt, carrying a star pd45,not a small pistol on my belt.walked right in and did what i had to and left.nothing was said. why would the state post a public building illeagly?

Probably the same reason they post legally at the DoS. You can't carry to renew your HCP, that's kind of like if you couldn't drive to renew your DL.

Just a guess.....

cause they are ignorant, It's not supposed to be an area that you can post, I mean after all it's just a pitt stop.

Rest stops creep me out. Glad they are posted the way they are.

This subject was discussed here: http://66.34.33.169/memberforum/viewtopic.php?t=260

This link is a letter from DOT which states the posting was done in error and those signs "were removed from all Welcome Centers and Rest Areas."

Hmm, "suggestion"....+1

If I go into a rest stop, especially at night, I am not disarming.

Heck, if I go into a rest stop and there is a couple of cops there I'm not disarming. I will not depend on them the defend me.

What Tim posted is correct...

Since you saw them nj.piney could be worth a call to them to let them know some are still up and refence the letter.

I won't ever stop at rest areas. ESPECIALLY at night, armed or not. Give me a good ole Love's truck stop and I'm good to go. Well-populated at any given time, well-lit and very clean.

The rest stops prove to me that you can carry in a park, unless properly posted, because most rest stops have a park area.

I carry at rest stops whenever I have to stop at them.
