303 For an Enfield

Does anyone know where to get good .303 ammo? I would really rather not order online. Anywhere in Knoxville, or possibly at the Outpost in Mboro?

VOW here in cleveland has some.As I recall they are not too expensive.

I've been meaning to stop by there. Is it the surplus Israeli stuff that one in five rounds actually fires?

I had friend who got some of that or whatever is like it and it hardly went off, or it was a really delayed fire. Great for getting rid of any flinch though...

The stuff I got at VOW was a twenty round box. It was not surplus and it fired perfectly. Infact I need to go by and load up on it again.

i have found the only was to get good .303 ammo without costing an arm and a leg is to load my own

All of the surplus seems to have dried up. Prvi Partisan, S&B, and Wolf Gold seem to be the best values available. Online, I'm seeing Prvi 174gr from AIM at $13.95/box.

It's an easy caliber to reload. My cases seem to last about 7-8 loadings with a standard 174gr FMJ bullet and 43gr of IMR 4320. Your mileage may vary as chambers in most .303 rifles tend to be a bit loose, causing case stretch and shorter brass life. The US-made P1913 Enfields and early British #1 MKIII rifles have tighter chambers and brass will last longer.

Yeah, that's a spread. I rank it up there with those brass and rosewood pocket knives we all had back in the 80's that you couldn't keep sharp if your life depended on it. BUT, are any of us really surprised that Pakistan = ? No, of course not. That crap was probably made by some teenagers up in the Khyber pass on an anvil with a flint rock hammer with a femur bone for a handle!

I checked the Relader's Bench in Mt Juliet maybe a year ago or so and they had three or maybe four loads in stock. They're just off I-40, north of the New Providence shopping center.

I know you said you don't want to buy online, but I get mine from Widener's Reloading in Jonesboro. It's 13.95 a box for PPU and they carry 158gr and 174gr and something else. They also have cheaper shipping than AIM does cause I have ordered from them too.

It's not that I don't like ordering online, it's just that I would rather support a local business even if I have to pay a little more if they have it. I've worked for one for the past four or five years so I'm a tad biased to local places.
