Q. What angle doe the P3 have to be mounted at?

A. The P3 must be mounted in the direction of travel and should be fairly level from side to side. Front to back the control can be mounted at any angle.

Ah, I did not even think about the side to side angle. I'll have to go out to my truck and see what my options are.

What year is your truck? I've used the Tekonosha Voyager, and know a lot of people using the Prodigy. If I were to buy one today, I'd probably get the Prodigy. May wind up with one, as I'm chasing a problem with my current setup and think the controller may be at fault. The Voyager works okay, but the Prodigy is a bit smoother.

They don't know. Whoever it is. :lol: The folks at the clerk's office, your buddy that knows a guy whose cousin got a ticket one time, the 3 different Highway Patrolmen you ask, almost everybody will tell you something different.

Brake requirements are based on weight ratings, not length. Most states require brakes on at least one axle if the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of the trailer is 3,000 lbs or above. I'm not sure if TN requires it or not, but most quality trailers in the 7,000 lb range (usually tandem 3,500 lb axles) will have brakes on at least one axle.

Buy the trailer you like. In the size you describe, towing with your F-150, I doubt you'll ever have a problem. Local officers usually don't hassle you over weight ratings and towing requirements, or 90% of landscapers would spend all their time getting tickets. Strap down the lawnmower, doofus! The only officers that might trouble you are THP/ TDOT, and if you look legal they'll usually leave you alone, whether you are or not.

This is what I found.

TRAILER INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

BRAKES (T.C.A. 55-9-204) (FMCSR 393.42.393.43)

1) Trailers with gross weight of 3,000 lbs. or more are required to have brakes on all wheels.

2) Trailers with gross weight of 1,500 to 3,000 lbs. are required to have brakes on one axle.

3) Trailers with gross weight of less than 1,500 lbs. need not be equipped with brakes.

If I'm reading that correctly, I would probably be required to have brakes on all wheels. I'm not sure of the weight of just the trailer, but I don't imagine it would be too difficult for the trailer plus the load to exceed 3000 lbs. I'd think the weight of the trailer alone, plus two 700-800 pound motorcycles would cover that pretty easily.
