KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Some University of Tennessee students plan to protest state laws and university policies that bar handguns on campus.

The students say they will wear empty gun holsters, beginning Monday, April 21, 2008.

UT senior student Nathan Robinson said it would be part of a nationwide protest by a group called Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.

Robinson said the weeklong protest would be limited to wearing holsters, wearing T-shirts and passing out fliers.

State lawmakers recently voted down a bill that would have allowed faculty and staff members to carry handguns on state college campuses if they had valid permits.

If there not going to put any effort into it, I'm sure as hell not going to be joining them. I sent the guy in the article a wtf email.

Are you a member of SCCC's Facebook group? There is a heck of a lot of effort going into these protests! Are you helping putting flyers up? Just as quick as they get put up, the Anti's are ripping them down. There are a ton of TV and radio interviews posted there as well as hosted on YouTube. SCCC is getting national air time and we gained over 1000 members in a day this week. Just a bit shy of 30k members, which we should hit by this weekend.

I was, our campus rep was an idiot, a non TN resident, didn't know anything about guns from what I could tell by talking to her. So I left and with a group of friends and cadets from the Army/Air Force ROTC we got the Shooting Club reactivated here. So yeah I'm doing things, and that's why I was mad when there was nothing going on at school today, no emails nothing, and I had to find out about it through the News Sentinel article...

Talk to Scott Lewis or one of the other admins and have them bump her as a campus leader and then you or one of your buddies take over that position. They want leaders who are going to be active on campus...FWIW, the protest has been advertised on SCCC's website and the Facebook group since at least the beginning of the year.

BT, be a man and put your anger aside, wear the holster dude.

Have you volunteered to assist the campus rep? Have you contacted her "boss" and offered to help?

Just saying...

You didn't have to find out about it through the news. You could check out their website occasionally and keep up with their scheduled events. I'm not even a student and I check out their website to get updates on their progress. Get over it already and join them.

After exchanging some emails with the guy, he found out last minute and did what he could so I calmed down (significantly) and offered to help and told him what resources and contacts I have. Hopefully Thursday or Friday you guys will have something to read or see.

way to go BT, maybe someday the libtards will see the light. But without what you all do now it will never ever happen.

As much as I hate to admit it, quite a few SCCC members are liberals. Its a good assumption to make that all liberals are against guns, but its not always the case.

What i didnt like is that the article in the new sentinel is going to make it harder on us non college people now.

Did you notice them pointing it out as a concealed carry permit over and over and over in it.

That seems to be the main problem with not understanding the law and lead to problems like at wal-mart last year.
