S&W 5946 spring replacement questions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I just became the owner of an emaculate S&W 5946 and I am wanting to lighten up the trigger pull without reducing reliability. I am hoping someone on here has some experience with this particular model. I have read on other forums it is just a matter of changing out the hammer spring or trigger spring but as I said I don't want to impede reliability. Any opinions and advice are welcome. Even if it is just to leave it alone and deal with it. But please elaborate either way. Thanks!

I hate to revive an old thread but I am hoping with a little more detail on my part some advice can be given.

I just spoke to Wollf Springs and ordered a hammer spring set with a 16,17,and 18lb spring. The original is 20lb. He said if it is being used in self defense (it is) that he would not mess with the trigger return spring so I am not. Does anyone have any experience with this model or any third gen smith with reducing the hammer spring weight? I am testing the reliability with the cheap federal ammo. If it can shoot that reliably it should be able to shoot anything. Also any general knowledge with replacing springs is welcome. My goal here is to lighten up that monster trigger pull while staying reliable. Thanks!
