Next Steps

I had not really used a handgun in nearly 20 years and really only ever use my 870 for bird hunting and trap. Now I purchased an SR9c, went to HCP Class and submitted my paperwork for my HCP. I have done a lot of research on the Internet, but I really feel like I am undertrained to actually use my handgun in a self defense situation, given that I live in Franklin, what do you all recommend as next steps? Is there somewhere you trust that does good next steps training?

Frankly I have been to a couple of places that said they offered classes, and the folks there were a bit sketchy. I am looking for general or specific advise, I don't think being half trained is the right way to go about carrying.

I'm in Murfreesboro, so I'm not familiar with gun shops in your area. On Target here in Murfreesboro offers tactical defense classes. The classes focus on drawing your weapon from your holster and being able to shoot fast, accurate and on the move or from cover. Right now there are 3 classes offered, Level I, II, and III. Each class is just over 4 hours long and each one builds on what you've learned in the previous class. At some point they are going to do a force on force class using simunition ammo (kind of like paintball but with little plastic BBs).

I've got an SR9c and I love it.

I took my HCP class there, but there are now classes on their schedule past February for anything but HCP class?

I would highly recommend a trip to Front Sight in Las Vegas. Their 4DayDefensive Handgun class is excellent. A search for certificates or memberships at greatly reduced prices vs. their list price will save you a bunch of money. You can easily get one of these for $500 or less, and for the membership and 4 days of training it is a great value. Let me know if you have other questions about Front Sight
