New press loose?

Recommended Posts

I have a rather new Lyman single stage press. I have loaded just over 1000 rounds of 223 in it and some 308.

It seems real loose now. a lot of play side to side and the pins have play in them.

Is this a common thing and nothing to worry about?

This image may help.

arrow 1 this is loose on both sides with wobble side to side and up and down. The arms are far from tight to the frame.

arrow 2 this area is just flat out sloppy as if the pin is worn out.

arrow 3 not as bad as arrow one but almost.

I have used a RCBS Sawger on the bulk of the 223 and after this I noticed things getting sloppy.

Did you grease or oil those before use?

Not sure if it would make it loose enough to notice if you didn't. I always make sure my presses are lubed at areas I think it will help.

The only press I have had work loose was an aluminum press. The main body was aluminum with a steel ram. After about 2,000 reloads it literally flops around.

Call Lyman

Sounds like it's never been lubed.

if there is a problem jeff just bring it back or let me know and i will call my lyman rep

This is a class act. We would not otherwise have known of the link to you.

My thoughts was that Lyman would make it good anyway, but it is really cool to see you pop up and proactively intervene.

A man, as good as his word, and more.

As a reference point, my 30 year old, well-used RCBS press is still as tight as when it was new.
