Blunt talk about potential for ammunition shortage

Recommended Posts

Wasn't exactly sure where to put this. It's the web page from an e-mail from Brownell's.

UNUSUALLY blunt talk about the potential for ammunition shortages, rivalling the 2008-2009 "Election Year Bubble."

UNUSUALLY BLUNT TALK, all wrapped up in the language of buying and selling. Apparently a big talk-topic at the SHOT show.

Of course I take the source with some hesitation but I also predict a run on guns & ammo this November that will make people long for '08-'09 when those things were so easy to get.

It will also start long before then. Like now.

I don't buy loaded ammunition as a rule. Most people shoot more in one trip to the range than I buy all year. BUT, I will say that DLM will be seeing my version of panic buying between now and november. This is a good point with me. I was a victim of panic buying back when....I bought powder and primers like a mad man. I'm only now starting to get even close to the low mark. I don't see anything I did, including the 35K primers I bought at once, that has made me say "Well, I wish I hadn't bought all this." In fact, I think I'll devote most of my free $$$ to buying up brass, powder, primers and maybe a new mold or two. Toss in a few 20mm ammo cans for storage and the stuff lasts forever.

Hooray for panic buying. The good folks at Hornady, Lee, Hodgdon, Alliant ect and their employees appreciate us.

Hmmm...

I think I'll buy a few shares in Ruger. Who else is publically traded & strong growth?

I've been thinking about picking up some ruger stock as well. Seems like easy money but it also seems like it is already too high.

I also roll with Verizon (5% dividend and the stock price is growing), a few oil stocks (3 bucks to get that out of the ground per barrel, 100 bucks on the open market) and KO. Those new machines are going over!

I think it will really start once the dust settles in the Repocrat primary. We already know that the Dempublican incumbent opposes our gun rights but Romney isn't exactly the poster boy for the 2nd Amendment, either. As Garufa says, I don't doubt there will be a run on guns/ammo, either way but if Romney gets the nod for his party's nomination, I expect such things to get real scarce, real quick.

I was at walmart yesterday and they were almost completely out of handgun ammo. I don't know if everyone in gvegas is running on ammo or it just happen to be bought up because it was a pretty day and everyone went shooting?

My Walmart was out of 9mm and there was a lot of empty space on the other shelf's,first time in a long time

Freekin' Great! Just like the stupid fuel shortage we had, this is going to be an ammo shortage caused by a rumor of an ammo shortage. :wall:

I was wondering why the only 9mm FMJ ammo at Bass Pro last week was 250 packs of UMC and a few boxes of Winchester SX9.

At Sportsman's Warehouse (Hamilton) yesterday...Win primers $27.99/1k, but sold out of small pistol, and not many left of other sizes - did manage a couple boxes of small magnum. Also no 1lb. containers of Unique or Bullseye. Ammo supplies looked good.

People are already buying stuff up. Primers were low in stock last weekend when I did my run. I bought several thousand primers and a big keg of powder, I should be able to outlast a 6 month panic. Ended up buying $500 in supplies, just to be really, really sure. The stuff never goes bad, so if nothing happens, I have supplies for a while.

Yea I also had to get small pistol magnums. But that is fine, that means less powder per go, right ?
