2 Rifles Within Past 2 Months

Thought I would share this with you guys.

I have successfully purchased 2 rifles at different times on the internet for the first time. First one was a month or so ago, my Enfield No.4 Mk.1 from GunsAmerica. That was a buy it now gun, and I think I got a fair deal on it considering how good a shape it's in.

Last night, I bought another but on Gunbroker this time. It was an auction, and I have decided that I HATE gunbroker auctions. Oh and the rifle is a Steyr M95 Stutzen Carbine. But I had the only bid on that gun until 3 minutes remained on the time, and this guy kept on and kept on bidding, whether he outbid me or not! He would wait until the timer (which resets 15min after each bid) reached 1 minute or less and then bid another $5....needless to say I was getting pissed.

But I ended up a winner, and the rifle also is coming with 150 rounds of brass cased ammo and 10 rounds of original 1940 Nazi marked ammo. :)

Congrats on the "new" guns!

I also hate gunbroker. I rarely use it, and when I do, I bid ONCE for what I am willing to pay. If someone else will pay more, they can have it. But it is different with used/antique/hard to find items, the things I want are common enough that another is not too hard to find.

Another tip about gunbroker and similar sites: a lot of the vendors are actual stores, local gun shops (to someplace somewhere) that put up a few items that have not sold. Use the auction engine to locate the store, then backtrack to the store to browse its inventory online (if available, often it is not) or call the store to ask if they have a whatever. Often, they have several of the item and may cut you a better deal than the auction .... a little virtual legwork can really pay off (and then again, it can be a total waste of time, you never know).

Yeah I have thought of that, but like you said, often they do not have online listings.

Just bought a Contender from GB. I watched it go through 3 seperate auctions without a bid. I did not bid during those auctions because I had bids on other guns at the time. Those never materialized so after forth go round I finally bid on the Contender. Wouldn't you know it this time someone else wanted it. Got in a small bidding war which I never do but I really wanted it. Ended up winning it but price went up 50.00 from where it sat unbidded on all those other times. Figured it was probaly the seller bidding against me driving price up a few bucks. Still did very good though. First Generation Contender in 223 Super 14" in SS, Pachmyer grips and LER scope for 430.00.

That's exactly what happened to me. My auction went from 250 to 300. But I figured up that the 150 rounds of brass cased ammo is worth about 150 bucks plus I'm getting 10 rounds of nazi marked ammo and then the rifle, so I didn't do too bad.
