Garage door repair

This is easy enough to do your self. Whoever you buy the spring from can tell you how many turns to wind it but you have to be careful doing it. If it gets away from you it can hurt you. If you have two springs it's Of a bad idea to replace both. They are rated for a certain number of cycles so the other one may not be too far behind this one before it breaks.

. I was told by numerous companies they would not sell me the spring.

I ran into that as well a few years ago when mine broke. I asked them who or what authority keeps them from selling the springs. I got a lot of "stories and lies" about it. Which is fine, that way I know what companies NOT to do business with in the future. I saw it as a win/win, I got to save money and I learned which local garage door companies were worth doing business with. :)

I used Williams Door the last time one broke. It was about 10 years ago though and cost about $120. Don't know if they are still around or not, but they did a good job.

I also bought replacement springs for a rental house from a company in Chicago (DDM Garage Doors) and installed them myself. The garage door used tension springs instead of torsion springs, so they were a special order. The total cost for two springs $56 which included shipping.

Tension springs are easy, I've done them before. Torsion springs... not so much.

Got a guy coming to look at it this afternoon. We'll see.
