Sig P226 Still Cycles After Last Shot

Recommended Posts

My Sig P226 aftering shooting the last round, sometimes the slide still cycles completely through with no round in the chamber. I assume this is a magazine problem. I just acquired this gun last week, and it came with a no name P228 magazine. I don't have any other compatible magazines to use (not yet anyway). Any help or suggestions?

Megar also makes a Quality Magazine as they are OEM of some of the Top Brand Firearms.

Thanks guys. I will be at the Ktown gun show this weekend. I will pick up some OEM or Megar P226 mags. I assume they are in the $25-$35 range per mag.

Definitely get the correct mag. The most likely problem based on what you are telling us is that the P228 mag isn't properly pushing up on the slide release, which is allowing the slide to go forward on an empty chamber. Typically the follower in the mag presses up on the mag release to lock the slide back on the last shot, so if you don't have the correct mag that's the most likely problem.

I am pretty sure Mecgar is the OEM manufacturer for Sig. I recently purchased 3 of their 18 round high-capacity mags for the 226 9mm and they work as well as the 15 round factory mags.

Another cause for this is make sure you have the correct grip and that your thumb is not pressing down on the slide lock. This is a common problem I see.

This. I often make the same mistake with a 229, especially after shooting a pistol with a different slide stop configuration.

MecGar was the old manufacturer. There's a new manufacturer now. I can't remember their name off the top of my head though. However, MecGar still makes aftermarket Sig mags that are like $10 cheaper than the factory mags but they have the larger base plates on them unlike the slim factory ones so keep that in mind.
