Speedfeed Reviews

Thanks to the internet, I stumbled across this: http://www.google.co...K1p8V-fApCG-8vw

While I'm not looking to be a mall ninja, the extra 4 shells for a HD/SD 870 Tactical makes sense

My 870 is stock, no side-saddle or butt shell carrier...

Anybody got one, looking for the good / bad / ugly

Using the search function, I didn't find any reviews for the product.

Also curious regarding standard vs. the pistol grip.

MODS - this should probably be in Gear and Accessories - please move if necessary

What are you looking at? The stock that holds extra shells? Personally, I'd just go for a side saddle. A simple design. If I wanted a pistol grip stock, I'd go for one of the Speedfeed stocks that doesn't store ammo inside the stock.

The extra shell carrier option looked pretty cool, though for 1/4 of the price, the side sadlle makes more sense.

I've never shot a shotgun with integral pistol grip, so apparently I'm not missing anything, but is it worth the investment?

I personally prefer a pistol grip stock (that's a stock with a pistol grip, not a pistol grip only) on a shotgun. I feel it gives me more control and just feels more of a natural posture than the standard stock.

Getting a little off topic, but any recommendations on a pistol grip stock?

If the price is comparative with the Speedfeed with shell carrier, get a Speedfeed?

I've only used the Knoxx brand stocks, but I know a lot of people are happy with the Speedfeed brand. Like I said, I'd personally go with a side saddle and a regular (non-ammo carrying) Speedfeed stock. If I'm gonna carry extra ammo, I want it easily accessible. You can use a side saddle and still maintain a sight picture while reloading. It might be more cumbersome with the ammo going inside the stock.

My 590 Mossy came with a Speedfeed stock. I don't use it.

I took Gunsite's Shotgun class with it back in the mid 90's. I had already put a Sidesaddle on it (which I like).

I carried Buckshot in the Sidesaddle and tried slugs in the Speedfeed. I found that unless the Speedfeed was completely full, it'd eject rounds all over the place when doing a fast run of slugs in a relay.

I need my ammo to be where I put it if I need it.

I put an Eagle buttstock cuff on the Mossy to hold my slugs and I'm quite satisfied with the setup.

I've run 870's with a pistol grip and have no complaints about them. They don't work well for a Mossy related to the safety...imho.

I had a speedfeed pistol grip stock without the round carriers on my 870 for a long time. Personally I loved the stock.

You didn't mention your intended use for the shotgun and that has some bearing on whether or not I would recommend it. The major drawback to it is the length of pull. I had to swap mine out for a colapsable pistol grip because the length of pull just didn't work for me while wearing heavy armor. It was fine with soft armor.

Either way speedfeed stocks are nice if they work for your intended application.
