Can FFL's be emailed to gun sellers?

Trying to buy a Sig P6 from Wideners, want to use Asherbranner's Pawn in Gallatin ($20 FFL xfer fee). The Pawn shop tried for 45 min. one day to fax their FFL but kept getting errors. Fax number was correct. They and I eventually gave up.

Wideners called me next day needing FFL, said if faxing wasn't working that it could be emailed. Went back to Asher.'s and asked them to email it, they said they can't, it's against the law (or not allowed by FFL). Said it can only be faxed or mailed.

Who's right here? Can a FFL be emailed?

Yep. I've emailed FFL's many times and never had a problem. I do, however, recall seeing on a website or two where certain dealers or distributors would not accept emailed FFL's, but that's their preference, not law. The FFL eZ Check site makes it fairly safe to receive FFL's via just about any form of communication.

Thanks guys.

Did some more research on this (mostly GunBroker forums) and yes a FFL can be emailed.

At the bottom of the FFL (I have a copy of the pawn shop's FFL) it says

"A faxed, scanned or e-mailed copy of the license with a signature intended to be an original signature is acceptable"

They may not want to do it, because it takes time to scan (if they even have that capability) and convert to PDF file. Maybe you can do that part and email it to Asherbranner's, then they can email it to Wideners. If they still refuse, try Guns & Leather. They are just a few short miles for Gallatin, in Hendersonville.

Got to D&T in Rivergate. Great people to do business with. Have done transfers for many on here. Tell them

your a TGO'er and they do it at a discount.

Thanks guys but Asherbranner's is very convenient (and at $20) cheap. I use their indoor range a lot. I would prefer to educate (and assist them if necessary). They seem to be accomodating, just mistaken on this part of FFL requirements. Next week I will offer to scan it for them, they can always turn me down, their perogative. If they get defensive I will back off but helping them helps me too.

Yes, the folks at D&T are very nice and I have bought 1 gun from them but they are a good bit of a hike for me (I'm in Wilson Co). (Would be nice if we had more bridges crossing the river.....)

If A.branner's won't do it MJ Pawn is only $25.....

Thanks again.

If you have a decent digital camera, a steady hand and can use the picture program your computer came with to crop the image, that suffices for emailing the license.

Sound's like another dealer that needs to keep up with the times.

Actually I have a scanner, and more importantly good scanning software. The issue isn't whether I can do it, it will be whether they will let me to do it.
