Great Interaction with Hamilton County SO Today

Recommended Posts

I was rear ended in a school zone today by a 17 year old girl texting. The accident was investigated by the Hamilton County SO.

Not wanting any issues I told the first deputy that approached me that I had a pistol. He asked where it was, I told him right hip and he nicely/professionally asked me to let him have it until the investigation was finished. He cleared it in what even I (a hard nosed safety nut) would call an extremely safe manner. Then he laid the gun & my permit on the hood of his car.

Three deputies and a chaplain were there and all were extremely professional and courteous. Zero issues about my gun except for how cool it was. (A Colt New Agent trough sight .45acp) When everything was over the deputy put my gun in my car and handed me the magazine and loose shell. They could not have been nicer. I was impressed. Bad circumstances, but excellent treatment by the deputies made a bad day a little better.

I still disagree with disarming someone in these situations but that's just my opinion. You were up front and honest with him from the beginning and you volunteered info that you are not required to by law. Why disarm you?

Regardless, it's good to hear everything went well.

I stopped at the scene of a motorcycle crash last summer to render aid. I happened to get the victims blood on my outer shirt and warned a police officer that I had a permit and was about to remove my outer shirt and my gun would be showing. He looked at me funny and made me go put my gun in my truck. I was a little offended but didn't make a big deal out of it, I wanted to tell him to go put his gun in his car but I'm not one to start trouble. As long as it stays in the holster I don't see why they want to disarm us?

The one thought I had was about being in a school zone. I wonder if he had to wait outside of his car if he would have been on school property?
