It’s a judgment call to pull your gun in the defense of another without all the facts. This news story could have turned out a lot different had there been a permit holder on-site. I can’t think of a clearer reason to pull your gun in the defense of another.

Facts:

Naked female tied up in the backseat of a car at a grocery store.

Duct tape over her mouth.

That is a tuff call. Would have definitely called the police. Not sure if I would have pulled my gun and tried to stop him.

I voted yes, but before I pulled my weapon, I would have let him know if the car moved an inch before police showed up I would be forced to stop him. If he put it in drive I would have pulled. Hopefully since they were just playing, he would have stayed put. I'm pretty sure that 9 out of 10 time you see this, it's the real deal and not someone having a little fun. If you didn't stop him and it was a real kidnapping that would be tough to live with.

I would have at least called the police. Pulling my weapon is a judgement call I can't make unless I'm there.

...and yet no one has mentioned the type of thoughts and behavior this "role playing" encourages! The couple does it for fun, the man finds that he likes it more than he should. Today it's harmless role playing, tomorrow it's someone's wife or daughter.

True, but I would guess that lots of people engage in odd sexual behavior, maybe not to this extreme, but I don't think that it carries over into criminal activity that easily.

I have a gun and a cell phone. My weapon of choice in this scenario would be a cell phone and keeping the vehicle in sight until cops got it stopped.

If I was a cop I would approach the driver, identify myself and see what’s going on. Whether or not I pulled a gun would depend on his actions.

I have always heard if you allow yourself to be taken to a secondary location your chance of survival is diminished.

I am pretty sure if that was my wife in the back of the car I would want someone to draw and call the police.

I'm not going to sit here nice and comfy on my couch and make a judgement call if I'm not in the situation. I know for sure I'd call 911. Whether or not I pull my weapon is something that would have to be made in the moment. You have to take the totality of circumstances into consideration. Too many variables to make that call without being in the moment, just like any of these "hypothetical" scenarios.

It’s not about legal requirements; it’s about saving the life of the victim (if there is one).

What’s the bad guy going to be doing while all this gun pulling is going on? None of us are suggesting we would simply stand by and watch him drive away. If the bad guy drops you in the dirt and drives off; you haven’t helped anyone and you have died for nothing.

I’m one of the few on here that doesn’t believe the mere act of pulling a weapon is the use of deadly force or aggravated assault; both require more than that. But you have to ask yourself if the mere act of pulling a weapon will stop anything. What will you do if he tells you to screw off and gets in the car and drives away?

While you are processing what you are seeing and wondering if you are justified in what you are doing, a hard core criminal may start shooting; he doesn’t have to worry about the law or justification. Many cops have died because of that.

I think if some of us were there that know how to make things happen; she would have a pretty good chance of survival.
