Honestly it is, in fact, that "etc..." part that can get a little hairy when dealing with the situation on a real world basis.

I just didn't list every place in 39-17-1311, because it seems to have been talked about so much....

But for refrence they are...

Public parks, playgrounds, civic centers and other public recreational buildings and grounds.

I do know. Thanks for repeating, though. As frustrating as it must be to repeat, it really can not be said enough! :P

Instead of calling it "real world basis," what I should have said was, when actually coming in contact with uninformed persons, especially if they are officers. It's amazing how many persons would misinterpret what "civic centers" and "OTHER public recreational buildings and grounds" actually mean. Even within the last couple weeks, I overheard a conversation by an officer that made me cringe.

Folks just don't know. Some folks think it's laid out so easily and obvious; some of them are the very folks that are wrong.

Why don't we test this out. Mars and fall, go to a park where we know it isn't against any local ordinace to not have that park posted and where no sign is posted prohibiting carry. Make sure to have your handgun license and a handgun on your person which is visible. Fallguy you call the cops and tell them there is someone in the park with a gun.

I'd bet that mars gets arrested and maybe charged.

I think the attorney general is wrong, but you can test it for us only then will I feel safe carrying in those places.

P.S. if it is anyway possible to test in Davidson County that is a plus.

Voldemort,

Since you are the one who likes to open carry, why dont you head over to Edwin Warner Park and test it out for us. It seems that you know the legal system pretty well...

I like to open carry, but I do not break the law. The only reason I said for him to open carry was so that the person reporting can actually state he saw the handgun.

I go to the dog park here off old hickory blvd daily. I'd like to carry, but it isn't worth the risk to go against the AG.

Just poking a little fun at ya. No harm intended. I like that dog park, except after it rains. The kids and I take our little yorkie-poo over there. He loves chasing the bigger dogs around.

My 5 MO golden likes to roll in the dirt, lay in the spilt water on the cement pad under the drinking faucet and roll in the dirt some more. We'll usually take her to the stream in the park next door so she can get a little cleaner afterwards.

I too agree that it is legal to carry inside a park, unless properly posted. The AG only likes to read one part of the law, not the part that prohibits switchblades and machine guns in parks.
