Does anyone have any experience with optic selection for a Socom ll. I will be initially be seeing how much distance i can attain. I am also interested in close quarters options. I also am curious as to if a cheek piece might be needed.

If you have the full cluster rail then you have some options in a more traditional scope, otherwise you will have to use a red dot, put a traditional scope mount on, or use a pistol scope. The rifle can shoot a long way, but it's not the type of gun most people buy for 800-1000 yard use, it's just not the right tool for that. I had a 1-4x Trijicon Accupoint on my Socom II and was very pleased. Gave me the 1x for CQB and 4x was plenty sufficient for out to 250-300 yards.

I also had an eotech on it for a while, that was actually a lot of fun and I still made hits out to 200 pretty easily.

A cheek riser will aid in comfort when using a scope because the factory stock is really only comfortable with iron sights. You can get them for $50-60.
