AR-15 Question

I am iffy on Bushmaster. For most people, I feel they make a fine weapon. I am assuming your average person is just going to shoot it a few times a year and expect few problems without any serious work involving their AR. I myself have seen numerous issues of poor staking and cutting of feed ramps on Bushmasters to be comfortable with them for the price you are looking to pay. I suggest you take a good look at other manufacturers and see what options are available to you and compare / contrast those against Bushmaster. If you find the Bushmaster has everything you want at a price you want, excellent. You might just find that you can get better quality / options from someone else for the same price however.

Just my .02

The new Bushmasters have properly cut M4 feedramps, properly staked gas keys. They do have commercial buffer tubes and no F marked front sight but who cares, the job is the same and those things do nothing much anyway since most stocks you can get commercial and the front sight dials in great. Everything else is the same as other high quality rifles

I have owned. Gotta watch all that Internet hype, and yes I was going to buy a REC7 but realized it was going to be pointless for the price. Bushmaster is a big company and still supplying to law enforcement and I have no ties to that company. Just want to let everyone know if anyone is looking at Bushy.

I'm no expert, but I love my Double Star.

That was my first and still my favorite. Really a good weapon for the money.

There is nothing wrong with the DI system and it can go much, much longer without cleaning. I have personally shot 3,000-5,000 rounds without cleaning. This was on a carbine length gas system. The only REAL advantage the piston systems have over DI systems is the bolt stays cooler. This helps the extractor springs last longer but you are talking about a $2 part to replace.

Bravo Company's Filthy 14 rifle has went beyond what anyone thought a DI AR could. It was finally cleaned at ~30,000 rounds and is still going strong. The last round count I can find is 43,000 rounds on the original barrel. That barrel is still shooting 1.5" at 50 yards, definitely serviceable by mot people standards.
