Swamp rat or Scrapyard knife

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody need help, the wife gave me permission to buy a good fixed blade knife. I have been considering two different blade. I like the ratmandu from swamp rat and the sykco 711 from scrapyard. I don't need anything bigger than 7 inch blade cause I already have a cold steel kukri machete for heavy work.

Not familiar with either of those, have you looked at the becker or esee knives ? They have a pretty good reputation and are fairly priced.

I love my Ratmandu's (all three of them) but have heard that the 711 is a fantastic knife. I also just heard that Dan at Scrapyard was getting ready to raise the price on the 711's. For the money I'd buy the 711 now and then buy the Ratmandu later.

Apparently not real well recognized unless you are into knives. I figure buy once cry once, warranty is worth anything if something happens and u can't send it back.

Absolutely. Their warranty is bulletproof, although odds are you won't need it. Put up some pics when you get it.

I really like the RMD,had a Scrap Yard 511 and the handle was just too small for me.Also the Howling Rat Little Mistiif is really nice, slightly shorter than the RMD

In my opinion, the RMD is just about a perfect hiking/camping/carry knife for everything except heavy chopping/brush clearing. I got one of the satin LE's they just released and it's absolutely fantastic. I've heard the HRLMs are nice but I've never had the chance to handle one.
