I have allways been told that the early Spetnaz units prefered the Romanian AK over the russian one. It was just built better.

If I ever pick up another it will be Romanian.

You probably shouldn't listen to that person anymore...

Haha I hear ya I know I love all aks especially the cheap beat up ones cause i put them thru hell but If I had a choice between a Real Russian AK selector switch and all ..and a real Romanian same setup ..Id definatly go for the Russian not that I wouldnt have the Romanian but if choosing between the two there isnt even a hesitation Rusky all the way Edited by plank white

I own one of those "crappy' Romanian's. I have a SAR-1 (the predecessor to the WASR's), and I've owned a WASR as well. Let's see ...

Boringly reliable? Check.

Accurate? Moreso than me, at any rate. It keeps putting the bullets where I aim them.

Attractive? Looks like a wood stocked AK to me.

I'm not sure what else it's supposed to be.

Dude I love Rommeys Hell I have 3 of them:) but if I had to choose betwen an original russian and an original Romanian both free but could only choose one Id choose the russian ...However and this is a Huge statement that may pis some off and Im sorry if it does but I dont think the current "Nutered russian" Aks are to much Better than the Current "Nutered Romanian " Aks That being said I just dont think they are worth double what a Rommey cost because they both work fine, Both do the same Job "Very Well" I might add. so why would I buy a Russian when I could buy 2 Rommeys for the same price? And again I say if I could choose between the two for free but could only have one Id choose the Russian ofcourse

But for the Price Id Choose 2 rommeys over 1 Russian any day of the week:)

The Maadis were built on original soviet equipment in Egypt. Its the closest thing stateside to the soviet AKM. The rommys are mostly great guns, like an old car some need TLC to get em just right. The Norincos and polytechs are by far my favorite. The recievers are thicker, the trigger crisper and the parts are better finished. Due to gun bans these cost way too much now. Arsenals are good guns but highly overpriced. 800 to a thousand is too much money for an AK with virtually no collector value. If you are gonna get one, get it soon. There are rumors that due to UN pressure the cugir factory that makes romanian rifles, are set to retool to make automobiles soon.

Okay. AK newbie here. Traded for a Romanian WASR10, have a ridiculously low price in it because of a couple of trades that go me into it. I actually paid more for a case of 7.62x39 ammo last week in Hendersonville than I have in the gun. It looks like the typical ak as fair as I can tell. Pretty smooth metal finishing, no burrs or obvious problems. Foregrip and stock are not a perfect match, but are unfinished and I plan to stain and polycoat them. Got 2 used mags with it and bought 5 new Bulgarain mags.

I've run about 200 rounds thru it so far and am quite happy with it.Considering I'd never shot one before, I was extremely happy to keep all the rounds from my first 2 mags in a 12 inch grouping. The gun ran flawlessly. Not a hiccup. No indication of a problem. If there are better ones out there, so be it. I got one I like.

So for me, it's a keeper.
