King Willie is the main reason we moved out of Shelby County altogether. And not a moment's regret. :)

And what with King Willie wanting to raise taxes by 17%. Thank GOD the council said NO.

It ain't over yet either.

The County is wanting to raise the county taxes by $.18, so I think if you have a 150K house, your increase is around $5.63 per month or 67.50/ year County only. This is adding .18 to the current 4.09 rate.

City, 18%, 150K house.

You go from 1287.45/yr to 1506.32/yr which is an increase of 218.87/yr or 18.24/month. this is using a 17% increase.

So in summation, you own a house in the City of Memphis, you have to pay city and county taxes. Your house is appraised at $150K Your tax payment will go up about $23.87 per month.

If this happens, my family won't eat out as much. People on a fixed income will hurt the most.

When I had a house in Knoxville they "froze" the property tax rate for a few years, everyone was happy. They did not "raise" the tax rate as promised. They did do a lot of "reassessing" for the next couple of years. I was wondering how my taxes went up so much under the "freeze". Found out it was a smoke screen. Then when promised they raised the tax rate with the new assesment values and ..... words I can't use here. Large or small government can be sneaky.
