I am just curious, you state that you have been far more motivated by the posters here - which is great - because we all need encouragement - how has this motivation moved you? Have you contacted your state senator/rep personally? Have you wrote an editorial in your local paper? I am not attempting to be sarcastic, but showing that we need to do more than just post here. Please don't take this as sarcasm, because that is certainly not my intent - and in print it is sometimes hard to descern.

No sarcasm sensed at all.....and to answer your question, yes the members of this board have motivated me to contact my local reps, to which none of them responded, but that is a different subject altogether. I also sent large amounts of information gathered from TGO, in email form and verbal form, to other HCP holders and TN gun owners that are not as motivated in hopes of inspiring a few to make a difference for themselves as well as the rest of us. The members here at TGO also help to point people in the right direction of which we need to go. Take Fallguy for example. He is always on top of the laws and offers an unbiased but well documented and informative opinion. TGO is a great resource to have for the TN gun owning community, not JUST a BB as others believe. Granted we all cut up and have a good time and carry on with BS a lot of the time, but that's another purpose this board serves. You get a bunch of guys (young and old) together in one place, with guns, talking about guns and politics and religion and laws and family and old war stories and ......my point is that TGO is far more than a bunch of faceless people, being chatty cathy over the internet, and hiding behind a monitors.

One other point, if one thinks that in TN favorable gun laws will just magically get passed, then think again. I am not at this point advocating TFA - but TN gun owners need a strong lobbying organization and people involved in the same. I can assure you that is not the NRA.

I couldn't agree with you more. It has been proven time and time again that if we want to better something in our legal system pertaining to gun issues, we will always have a hard fought way to get there. Undoubtedly, this is where TFA should step in with the lobbying aspect of it.....But if they don't ask the fine people of the TN gun owning communities for help, then they can not be any more effective as me sitting here at my house, calling my locals. Maybe it's a pride thing, I don't know, but it will always take more than a few good men.

??? Best of luck in getting people involved? Best of luck in getting a reliable and motivated lobbying organization?

It means best of luck with any of it or all of it. You have decided who is effective and who you would model your group after, so go to it.

I am going at it here in GA. Being on the border, I would love for some TN organization to step up and lead the way for those in TN - I would think this would be the TFA. I would be willing to volunteer at the local level. But not being a TN resident limits my politcal influence - although I have wrote several letters to various politcal officials.

Some of you guys are pretty hostile towards the TFA. I have heard of them years ago and I think I was a member at some point. Its not like they are rolling in the money and not doing anything. It sounds more like they hardly have any money and barely pay the bills type organization. What do you expect them to do if they only have 130 something dues paying members? It is my guess that John Harris donates his time doing what he does and for this I am grateful. Thank you John Harris for your efforts. If you want to join then join if you don't then don't. If you want to form your own organization fine. There is no reason to belittle anyone else's efforts.

I do know that John donates his time to the TFA, he is not paid. I don't think he has ever been paid for his TFA work. Which really means he pays out of his pocket to do the TFA work because it is no longer free for a volunteer lobbyist to register with the state. Every lobbyist now has to pay the fees.

John is a full time attorney and has a practice to run as well so time out of the office is time not getting paid. There are a few folks on the hill trying to look out for your rights, people who have contacts and credibility already. What they need is mobilized forces. They themselves also need to do a better job getting their word to the members, supporters what have you. Maybe some of you could help with those efforts. Almost everyone can give something; time, treasure or talent.
