I have the Surefire muzzle brake on one of my rifles and have the PRI/MSTN QC brake on my other rifle (this one is still at MSTN, so havent shot it yet).

I'm told the PRI/MSTN one is just as good as the Surefire brake and the Surefire brake worked very well last time I took it out shooting. The MSTN is less expensive than both brakes, so if it works as well as the SF, then I'd recommend that over the BattleComp.

Does it work? Absolutely. I have one and it works exactly as they describe. Is it worth the money? That's a personal question. I think so, but obviously others here disagree.

Can't say I agree with them though. Definitely can't agree that it seems cheap or worthless either. But my experience consists of using it, not looking at one at a gun show.

If you looked at a compensator at the Spikes table, you looked at their offering. Not the BC. For its intended purpose, the BC works very well. As a matter of fact, they're so popular that you could buy one and try it. If you didn't like it, you would get most if not all of your money back.

i know the spikes reps was say it was there new comp, and had it on a one or 2 of the rifles you could test drive and so i am sure it was a spikes brand comp. the one i tryed was very much giving the appearance that the COMP PART was like thin sheet metal punch full of holes that had about 1/4" overlap and was simply bent over in the front.

as i said it looked cheap and worthless. any way it looked poorly enough that i hope was just thrown together quickly, so it could be seen.

but as stated everyone has there own idea of works and what does not.

I've used Battlecomps on 5.56 and 308 rifles. It's the first compensator I've tried that I didn't have to wonder whether or not it was doing something; the difference was dramatic. They are definitely worth it, and certainly not cheap-looking or feeling.

I've never used a comp or muzzle break with what I will say a "closed end" with only the bullit hole or partially closed end like the Troy breaks so this may be a stupid question. Does carbon and fowling build up and make it hard to clean etc??

I have a pinned battlecomp 1.5 on my BCM EAG TAC Upper. It definitely works but those shooting beside you will hate you due to the gas redirection. It's the best comp currently available imho.

I have shot beside mine before. It's louder, but not as bad as a lot of the other brakes I've shot next to. I had both of my AR carbines at the range that day, with a buddy in the next lane. both of my rifles weigh the same, so I was able to do a good comparison between the BC and an A2. Some recoil mitigation, somewhat louder than the A2, and major improvement in muzzle rise.

The battlecomp is awesome...well worth the money I think. I've had some PWS brakes and the battlecomp has almost the same recoil reduction but does not have the concussion that the PWS brake had. My buddy still has a PWS and when we go shooting the difference is tremendous. His gun gives me a headache after an afternoon of shooting while I can shoot mine all day long with no worries. Also, I have had the 1.5 and the 2.0 version and I couldn't tell a difference, so get the 2.0 or A2 sized brake to keep it short as possible unless you need the 1.5 for a 14.7" barrel. Aim surplus has free shipping on them I believe.

1.0 is the original made for screw-on comp. The 1.5 is the one made to be pinned (so you can't remove it a pin goes into a slot then it gets welded on) to allow an OAL over 16" for 14.5" barrel builds. The 2.0 is shorter but is compatible with the few suppressors that attach on flash hiders (I think gemtech halo is one). the 1.0 and 1.5 will work better since they are larger. I recommend the 1.0 if your barrel is over 16" and a pinned 1.5 for anything under (unless it's a registered sbr then get the 1.0). If you want a suppressor down the line there are better products that will attach a suppressor better that a normal flash hider such as the AAC Blackout 51T Flash Hider or the AAC Blackout 51T Muzzle Brake.
