Parts compatability Beretta & Taurus

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for first hand information about the compatability og the barrels for a Taurus PT92 and a Beretta 92. Can they be swapped? I know MidwayUSA sells a barrel that is a drop-in for both, but it doesn't say much more than that.

Thanks in advance for the help.

From what I understand is that most Berretta 92 parts are compatible with the Taurus PT92 to include the barrel/locking block. I haven't tried this myself (I've never owned a Taurus) but the PT92s are built on Berretta machinery still, as far as I know. A few things are different like the take down button and the grips. Are you looking to put a Taurus barrel in a Beretta or Berretta barrel in a Taurus? I have a Berretta barrel or two sitting around somewhere if you want to give it a try.

Here is a link to a thread discussing the compatability on a Taurus enthusiast forum: http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/pt92-other-taurus-pistols/28528-taurus-beretta-92-compatibility.html

I'm looking to put the 7" competition Beretta barrel in a Taurus PT92 to assist in a build I'm going to take on for a friend of mine in Washington. He is wanting to recreate a pistol from the movie Romeo & Juliet. I've got a Beretta 92FS, but don't have access to a Taurus at the moment. He is wanting this question answered before he drops $300 on the competition barrel.

I have seen that post on Taurusarmed, and I emailed it to him the other day along with the barrel from midway that goes to both. He is still telling me that what he is reading is that they are not. Without having the 2 in front of me I can't tell.

Hmm, I can't imagine there is anything different in the locking block design or the barrel itself on the competition barrel that is different from a regular Beretta barrel. It would seem to me that if a Beretta barrel would work in the PT92, the competition barrel (designed for a Beretta) would work just the same. I guess contacting the manufaturer of the competition barrel would be the only way to know for sure. If they say it's a no go then that's your answer. I still can't imagine that it would be an issue if a regular length barrel would work. Why not loan him a spare Beretta barrel so he can make sure that works before buying the 7 inch one? If you don't have one sitting around I have a few, but something tells me you won't have a problem locating one.
