I tried to buy another gun last evening and got turned down as I usually do because of some 30 year old problems I had as a kid. Seems I have to do another appeal for about the 6th time to get my shotgun before turkey season,, THis generally takes the State of Massachusetts about 4-6 weeks to respond before they see that all charges had been dropped and I am once again accepted to buy my new gun... Is their anyother way to get these kind of things cleaned off my record without spending thousands of dollars on lawyers fees and/ or having my record exponged? We're talking 32 years ago I got into alittle trouble here... I really wanted to start collecting some weapons now that I have access to a good proshop and get awsome deals.... Any help would help guys.. THanks ANdy

I had my record expunged after a minor incident while in college. You can hire a lawyer but I didn't bother, I think I just spoke with a local judge and he saw that I hadn't caused any more trouble and ordered my record expunged, I think I had to make about a $150 donation to the county as well. May be well worth the money if you are having that much trouble.

It's generally a matter of the record not showing a final disposition of that case in that state. You need to get a copy of final disposition.

Then, don't know how you reach them exactly, but you can contact FBI and fax it, they can toggle that repeating glitch off, as it were. Several folks here have done it with a recurring problem like yours.

Your disposition isn’t showing.

Call, or have someone go to the Clerk of the Courts office where the charges were filed.

Explain to them that the dismissal (Disposition) isn’t showing up in the system and ask if they can reenter it.

Ask them if they can send you a couple of notarized copies of the court records showing the dismissal.

You can spend the money to have it expunged if you like, but if the charges were dismissed it really isn’t necessary; the arrest can still show.
