Opinion on sighting in CrimsonTrace

I got my wife a CrimsonTrace laser grip for her Glock 33 for valentines day. I could sight it in at a specific distance and the point of impact will change at varying distances due to the design of the laser. Should I sight it in at say 10 yards at point of impact or should I sight it it straight where the bullet hits at the same offset as the laser is to the barrel? I'm leaning towards the latter as we have several dogs and cats and lots of coyotes around so a 30/40yard shot might be necessary while I am at work.

What is the normal setup?

I set mine up at 15 yards (the owner's manual says either 10 or 20, I don't remember). My thought was it won't change that much in a self defense situation. It's more of a point and shoot design anyway. As far as 40 yards out for coyotes. You can't see the laser in the daylight so you would be able to use it only at night. I would shoot blindly in the night anyway, so the sighting in for that far wouldn't work for me.

I set my wifes house gun for approximately 25 feet fo point of aim/impact. I felt that was about max distance she'd shoot inside.

A half inch of offset isn't going to make a difference in a SD situation. Long as you're within minute of man, you're GTG.

Far as shooting 'yotes, your bullet trajectory is more then likely going to be +- 2-3 inches past 25 yards

With the 33's ballistics I am confident that anything with in the boundary of our fence will be a laser strike. With that said I don't think an inch diagonal will be an issue. 1/2" up, 1/2" left. That bullet won't drop inside of 50yards.

Not talking bullet drop. Talking bullet trajectory. Bullets will both increase and decrease in elevation mid-flight.

Here is a link from Proarms Podcasts (Massad Ayoob and friends), podcast number 018 that talks about Crimson Trace. You can fast forward to the 49 min mark and they give their recommendation of how to sight the laser.

In short, their procedure is to adjust the laser so that it is parallel to the bore and not to adjust it for a given distance. That way you don't have to worry about changing distances and the laser aim to bullet impact crossing points. If it parallel it will stay in the same relationship until the distance gets great enough that the bullet trajectory comes into play which is typically further than a SD situation.

Got it took care of this afternoon. Very happy with it. Her .40 barrel showed up today as well. Boy does it kick vs the .357sig. I was surprised.
