Mosin Nagant M44 Suppressor

I already have a 91-30 and I love it, so I picked up a M44 today.

It has the folding bayonet , but there's a muzzle brake installed, so the bayonet won't flip forward. Here's my question:

Is the muzzle brake / suppressor worth the trouble?

Obviously, it looks cool, but do any of you Mosin aficianodos think it actually reduces recoil or increases accuracy?

I've heard these shoot better with the Bayonet extended, so what's the trade-off?

Take the thing off. It looks much cooler with the bayont extended and that rifle is plenty loud enough.

I have no idea if those brakes do anything. I'm sure whoever uses them will swear that they do. Just don't sit next to me at the range.

Be a man! :) Absorb the recoil!

I would take it off, extend the bayonet & fire away!!

Unless you don't like the guy next to you at the range then leave it on. :)

Was hoping to resell it if I took it off, but I see that they're $8.99 on Amazon, so I guess I'll keep it in the parts bin for fun.

Would like to shoot it at night with and without just to see the show!

Ok, so I learned more than I expected. Forgive my ignorance, but I didn't know the muzzle brakes make them louder. Good to know at the range! Though the last time I took it out the guy beside me was shooting some kind of hand cannon that made incontinent, so I doubt I'd be the loudest idiot there.

Thanks for the tips... One more question.

Should I expect a lot less accuracy from the M44 an the 91-30? Will it really shoot better with the bayonet out?

91/30's are inherently more accurate due to the longer barrel. YMMV may vary with bayonet extended or not.

My 91/30 is sighted for the bayonet attached as, according to legend, was Soviet doctrine. That is not an M44 and it seems that when I had an M44 it did not make as much difference.

Take it out and try both ways. You will find out pretty quick.

You would notice any difference in accuracy only if only M-44 has a scope. After you take bayonet off it will shoot left. Which you will notice without any scope.

Good neoprene buttpad absorbs recoil much better than any muzzle brake

I have the infamous bubbaed Mosin. someone cut off the barrel to two inches longer than a M44, and stuck a very ugly aluminum front sight on it. We scoped it. great shooter. I now have an M44 stock that I'm going to fit to it...I think. It's a War Baby stock and really ugly. Should look great!

Be sure and post pictures, so we can all share in the ugliness!

Thankfully, mine is only the victim of an amateur stock refinish.
