I took my fiance shooting for the first time ever

I took her to the Gallatin gun club today to shoot some .22. She is 22 and has never shot before. It's even more amazing that she finally wanted to go because she is half Japanese and her mom, being from Japan where citizens aren't allowed to have guns at all, has always taught her that only bad guys had guns because that's the way it was there.

Anyways, we took my Marlin 60 .22 semi-auto out there, set up some targets at 25 yards and had a blast. She did good and wants to shoot more. I told her what she shot was probably the easiest thing ever and that next time we will try something a little different. Maybe farther out.. work 50 yards then 100. then some smaller targets, etc. Anyways, here are some pics:

There is nothing more gratifying then introduce and teach someone how to safely handle and shoot fire arms. Except maybe having you spouse or soon to be spouse interested in something you love. Reef like me your a lucky man.

Excellent job Reef! I agree w/Jack that there is little more satisfying than introducing a loved one to something you enjoy so much.

My GF has expressed interest in shooting, so one of these days soon I will take her for her first shots. She works retail mgmt and sometimes closes the store late at night alone, has $ to deposit, etc. I would feel much better if she earned her carry permit and carried something comfortable and appropriate for her.

 That's awesome.

I told I would teach her a while ago and never mentioned it again.. as much as I mess with guns I knew it wouldn't slip her mind or anything, so I just waited for her to ask me and sure enough she did.

You mean she actually "wanted" to be taught?

Well we went out there again today, shot a different gun, this time my old Mossberg bolt action .22 with a 4x scope. My dad's grandma gave it to him and he gave it to me.. it's a great and accurate gun. I believe it's 60 or 70 years old. I forgot the camera today so no pics but she shot a group slightly larger than the one above at 50 yards, and at 100 it was about a 5 inch group.

After that, she shot my AR at a 1x2' steel plate about 200 yards out, offhand, and whacked it about 3 out of 10 times.. I was pleased and she said she liked it and had a good time, and wants to go back. I'm going to take her as often as she wants to go. Then I'll get her to start cleaning my guns so I don't have to :D "Hey, it's your job to clean the house, same goes for guns, too" I think that'll work.

Lay that s**t on her and steel may not be the only thing she whacks. How are you at sleeping with one eye open? :D:lol::lol:

Well, stop the presses. She wants to get her handgun permit party.gif

I haven't taken her to shoot handguns yet, but I'm going to teach her with my XD-9 and .357 686.

I'm going to make that happen this summer. This is a tremendous day. I don't see her carrying all the time, but I can see her with a nice .38 J frame or Kahr 9mm.

very nice work Reef! I made the same mistake...I took Julie to Cherokee rod and gun club..she made a nice 3 inch group with the m1a at 200 yards...not bad for the first time she's fired at that range with iron sights!

be careful though..if your fiance is anything like mine, you'll end up having to buy her a really NICE long gun.

Wish I could convince my wife that atleast having it in the glove compartment is better than sitting in the safe at home. She is just affraid of the kids rooting through her purse when she is at home or grabbing it from her hip. They are 3 and 18 months. I understand her concerns but the glove compartment is no where near where they are. I have also thought of mounting a holster in the car for her/me when I am driving.

We have a 2 1/2 year old, and a newborn boy. I had concerns at first to, as far as the kids finding the weapon, etc.

When the weapon isn't on my hip, it is unloaded and locked, or in THIS

As far as grabbing it from your hip, a holster (CQC Blackhawk with SERPA) with good retention should alleviate that concern. And I figured, it is easier to allow them to grow up around me carrying, and establish the rules when they are young and haven't yet figured out that I don't know everything. :D

Don't get me wrong at all, I have my permit and I am always carrying around my kids. It is the wife that is concerned about her having one and one of the kids grabbing for it. I think if she were to stick with her S&W 36 she would be okay. The trigger on that thing is a monster, but she is wanting to carry something, shall we say, a little more potent with a softer trigger. That is her concern and lets face it, if Momma ain't happy, no one is happy.
