While I do wish the United States would boycott the games, we all know this isn't going to happen. Coca-Cola is sponsoring the games and have invested alot of $$$ in it. You know they aren't going to pull out and lose the money. The athletes, some of whom have been training their whole life, certainly aren't going to boycott and the govt. doesn't have enough fur on their bean bags to pull out.

Very sad actually. It seems like it's o.k. for the Chinese to supress the monks in Tibet and continue to export potentially dangerous products all over the world while our govt. turns the other way.

I for one, will not be watching it all. I'd rather watch my grass grow.

I remember the olympics being a really big deal every 4 years when I was a kid. Now that they are every 2 years it doesn't seem as big. Not to mention we don't have the "rivalries" that we used to. The miracle Hockey game between Russia and the US.

Now they are a snore.

I don't think the IOC should allow the games to be held in any country that is communist and anti human rights. They should be globally shunned, no trade, no aid, nothing.

personally I could care less how the chinese gov't treats their subjects.

I am more concerned how OUR gov't treats me. Lets fight the battle on the homefront first.

I am going to do everything I can to boycott everything. Wait, that would mean boycotting boycotts in which case I would be cast in to Dante's 8th concentric circle of hell doomed to forever damnation trying to figure out the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon for every person in the world.

I always wanted to make a shirt with a bunch of monks in the five man

entry position (stacked up like SWAT guys) with guns, in their robes, beads, and the words... "ARM TIBET" at the bottom.

I love watching great athletes compete, but I don't like the rabid commercialism that infects the sports world these days.

I got to hang out for a few hours with some Tibetan monks a few years back- they were in Memphis doing concerts of traditional folk music and dance, raising money for their monastery. These guys were really cool- nice, mellow, very funny, very human. They wanted to eat at Burger King for one of their meals!!

But, they were all living in India, in exile.

As far as I am concerned Tibet is a domestic problem for the Chinese to work on. Boycotting Beijing talk isn't so much of a waste of breathe here as it is a waste of key-strokes.

Many of our athletes can only prepare for this event once in their life.

The average cost of taking a young athlete from the first day of training to a Gold Medal averages 1.2 MILLION $$$$. Our nation does not provide financial support and this must come from private and non profit sources.

Let the athletes go over there and bring back hardware!! Let the governments play their games.

They knew China was a backed up septic tank BEFORE they picked the location of the Olympics.

I don't understand the "boycott the Olympics" deal and then the truth is in that cartoon Waynesan posted. Even most "American flags" are made in China. Most everything is.

I say go to the Olympics, let our athletes bring home some medals and quit buying stuff made in China! More for the health of "our nation" than any political statement.

To boycott the Olympics and then run to Wal-mart (or anywhere now days) and buy a few things because you aren't watching the Olympics, well that's just dumb.

China isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I've been there twice in the last year. The people are generally nice, and happy. Communism is their way of life, and they are typically pleased with it. That said, they are slowly pushing their limits and gaining some more freedoms. Change is slow in China... except for the industrialism that's growing rapidly.

Where those the monks that performed at the catholic school on the corner of Walnut Grove and Perkins? That was by far the most interesting concert that I have ever been to. Watching one person sing more than one note at the same time still amazes me.

Well, the good news is this is the Summer Olympics and curling is a Winter event. But the bad news is there are 4 days of Table Tennis coverage.
