Springfield XDM .40 vs Glock 22

Alright guys. Want some thoughts on the debate. Both me and my friend have XDm .40s, but he thinks he wants to trade his for Glock 22. Just wanting to know what yall think. Is one clearly superior? What are the pros and cons? I guess the biggest question is, if it really comes down to feel/preference, what is the best value? From looking around, I usually see XDms selling for more than the glocks, and if you get into LE refurbs, there seems to be a pretty big price difference. Would it be reasonable to expect that he could get $200 boot on a gen 2 or 3 refurb glock 22 for his XDm? I mean, if that is the case, I might need to start looking into getting a glock myself. $200 could go a pretty good ways toward new holsters, mags etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You nailed it here "it really comes down to feel/preference" as far as reliability and accuracy equal IMO. Natural point of aim is what draws me to the XD line.

One is not superior to the other. It's personal preference. I find that Glocks have the ergonomics of a brick. XDs on the other hand I love. Some people love Glocks and hate XDs.

I have both an xdm 40 and a g22c. The ergonomics of the xdm are better but its top heavy. The glock has more even weight distribution but as bkelm18 stated, ergonomics of a brick. If it was my choice, i nwould go with the glock. There are tons more user added accessories on the market and they are a much simpler weapon. IMHO the simpler the weapon (the less moving parts to lubricate, inspect, tune) the better. My g22c i have converted to fire .357sig and .40sw (barrel and mag changeout, mag optional works with .40 mags). I have personally changed out my trigger group to 3.5# as well as some other goodies i am not going to mention. Not to mention i find it easier to conceal my glocks than my xdm.

Like above, it comes down to personal preferenc as both are fine weapons (neither have failed me).

If you are deciding to swap, i think id sell it to a private party. No one around here is giving fair trade amount on anything.

Tell him to shoot both. Pick the one he likes better. If he likes a different gun than you, oh well. Life goes on. It's called freedom to choose.

Neither is better than the other.

To me you are comparing Springfields latest and greatest to older model Glocks. So the price is going to be very different and then you are talking about LE trade ins and refurbs as well. So any brand used, trade in, and refurb are going to be much cheaper. With that said I am a Glock fan and prefer them it will go bang, it is a Glock after all. As said earlier accessories are readily available for Glocks as well.

The XD might not have as many choices for aftermarket parts, but the ones they have are second to none. Both Springer Precision and Powder River Precision make replacement parts for just about anything that needs to be done to make your XD/XDm shoot as sweet as you want. There are a few others that make some accessories like grip tape and if you want a recoil spring maybe you'd prefer Wolff. Neither is a gun you couldn't put your life or the lives of your loved ones in with complete confidence.

I don't think that any dealer would offer you a used Glock 22 and $200.00 for a used XDm. A used Gen 2 Glock 22 sales for $300.00 and up. A used Gen 3 Glock 22 sales for $350.00 and up. These are the prices from wholesalers (like Express Police Supply, GT Distributors, etc.) who buy them directly from law enforcement agencies. If another dealer purchases an LE trade in Glock from a wholesaler to sell in their store the price that they pay would be close to this so expect to pay a little more. A new XDm 40 sales for about $550.00. I would imagine a dealer might offer you an even trade or if you are lucky maybe a used Glock 22 + $50.00. I imagine a dealer would sale a used XDm 40 in great condition for between $450.00 and $500.00 on the high end.

Personally, if I wanted to get rid of an XDm for a Glock 22. I would sell the XDm to a private party and then buy a used Glock 22. You would get more for the XDm and it's easier to negotiate with cash in hand.

For LE trade in guns in Knoxville check http://www.craigsfirearms.com/ They buy Glocks directly from law enforcement agencies.
