Thanks for all the howdys. I should have said that my first purchase was an almost new (less than 200 rounds) Browning Buckmark Practical URX with Browning rug, two mags, Pro Gold ear muffs and cleaning kit for $240. The guys at Shooter's Depot said that I stole it. I hope so!

Now, it's on to getting a carry permit and figure out what would be good for home/personal protection.

Welcome!

I waited until almost age 50 to shoot a pistol, unless maybe shot one as a kid and don't recall it any more. Shot rifles as a kid but grew up and lived in city areas and forgot about it for a long time.

Haven't owned a Buckmark but have shot them and think they are nice pistols. Buckmark owners are generally pleased as best I've been able to tell. Have thought about getting a Buckmark but haven't yet.

I don't keep up with Buckmark prices but $240 is definitely on the low side of what most of the "good" pistols sell for. And a Buckmark is definitely in the "good" pistol category. You may very well have stole it.

[Rambling] The line between "good" and "not good" pistols is very subjective and opinions vary. I dunno nothin but usually consider a pistol "not good" if it has a reputation of not running reliably, breaking too frequently, or if it is made of non-durable materials such as pot metal. But some folks enjoy "not good" pistols and even collect them. And even a "not good" pistol ought to be better than none at all, at least as long as it doesn't explode. ;) So it might be difficult to declare that even the shoddiest and most unreliable saturday night special as without doubt "not good", because some folks might like em fine.[/Rambling]
