Gunshot Heard Around the Gun Show

Recommended Posts

Let's go all class action on him for making gun owners as a class look bad, damaging our integrity, creating pain and suffering and embarrassment, etc, etc.

I'd settle out of court for a chance to kick his butt once.

In the military, negligent discharge is an automatic Article 15, a Letter of Reprimand from a General Officer, and mandatory comments in your fitness report, if memory serves.

How it is posted is irrelevant. It is illegal to carry in a Knoxville city park. Guess where the Jacobs building is?

Except that the fairgrounds is evidently not considered a park by the city of knoxville. I asked Bill Haslam (mayor at the time) how they were doing gun shows in a city park when guns were banned and he found out for me that the city doesn't consider it a park (even thought the title says so.) Carry is totally legal in Chilhowee park.

There is an exception in the law for gun shows. Either way, I'm not going to carry there. Since Knoxville doesn't have to post its parks, I can see some KPD officer or even the KPD wannabees that act as Chilhowee Park security making a fuss over it.

Well that's good to know. I just hope the Mayor told all the local LEOs. Plus, technically, guns aren't banned, just the the carrying of loaded guns, right?

I believe if you are a ffl selling guns at a show you are required to be armed by the atf while displaying the items, could be wrong but every vender i have seen is just like most gunstore employees.

I'm most definitely sure that is not correct at all. There is no ATF rule that requires anyone to be armed at gun shows or gun shops.

my mistake when i displayed some at a local fairgrounds show (not a gun show) we were asked to carry openly, and so no one would grab and load and open fire but then again they werent checking guns at the gate.

One of the guys in our office was telling the story over the phone this morning and we had to reprimand him, He said, "A dealer was showing off his gun and it went off". The guns didnt freakin go off! He pulled the trigger, big difference. Point gun at human flesh, make hole in human flesh.

I have had many encounters with Bill. He is a good guy and I think he is retired leo/ military. I have held that kimber and it did have a laser on it. I am not defending him by no means. Lets just all keep him in our thoughts and his wife who is usually there with him and most likely saw the whole thing. He is going to have a long legal battle in front of him and might loose his license. I am pretty sure most of us have talked to him, he is one of the more friendly vendors there. It was a stupid thing to have happen, but I know most of the vendors carry a loaded personal weapon, several have cleared a round before showing it to me. Again I am not saying it was not a stupid move on his part, I wish it never happened, but I bet we all check twice or more from now on.

Just curious as to what legal battles he is going to face? To me it seems he violated city ordinances at most.

He probably shot himself trying to empty the chamber. Who knows?

But this is exactly why i won't ever ask someone to show me their carry gun and why i won't show mine.

Put it in your holster and leave it the hell alone

That's the best advise for any CCW holder. Should be one of the first things taught in the class!.
