Shoplifter at Chilhowee Gun Show Jan 28th

Sorry if this was mentioned in the other thread about the show, I can't get TGO to let me past page 1.

Just about closing time, must have been just after 4, I became aware of a shoplifting attempt at the show today.

KPD went scurrying around, and the girl at the counter I was at filled me in.

Apparently the gentleman decided that a scope and a complete AR-15 upper wouldn't be noticed in his pants on the way out the door.

He was detained in the back right corner of the hall, and appeared to be seriously reconsidering his life choices when I saw him.

On my way out, I passed two officers searching a Mercedes, and uncovering quite a bit of additional merchandies.

As I passed, I said to the officer: "please tell me the shoplifter doesn't drive a Mercedes." He replied: "yeah, it goes well with the food stamp card."

Of all the places one might consider shoplifting, I'm fairly certain a Gun Show isn't the safest. Also, the fact that he kept going back for more stuff, building up to an AR complete upper, leads me to believe he was trying to get caught.

Well, you know that guns used in crimes are rarely purchased at gunshows; but now we are aware of the apparent gunshow rip-off loophole.....

LOL>........... robbing a gun show..........sound like an easy way to get shot

I'd say that would fix stupid!

Hopefully they ban him for the show for life. Criminally, he will no doubt get probation. I really wish the value would be enough to make it a felony so he can never own a firearm and much less enter the show again.

These people are the ones who are going to ruin the hands on approach at the shows we enjoy.

The word was yesterday that there were 6 guns missing.

Another one caught today (sunday).

Also, a vendor accidently shot himself - through his hand, table, & into his leg.

How does THAT happen, with . . . a guard at the door and everything zip-tied shut?

How many folks hit the deck? Was there total silence afterwards or a storm of cursing?

Total silence. It went from normal hubbub to super church quiet.

Thank you.

How long for people around him to react with first aid? How long did it take for the ambulance to get there?

There's an old phrase: "It's not what happens, it's what you do about it." I hope there was a credible medical response at least.

I hate to see things like this happen. He's injured, and embarrassed beyond belief, and people around him are scared $#!7less, and the gun show crowd looks like a bunch of witless idiots, and all the anti-gun droolers have ammunition for a year. Next thing you know, the Knoxville City Council is banning gun shows in the city limits or some such nonsense.

N ot to change the subject, but Sunday a vendor was showing a customer his personal Kimber

.He took the magazine out, pulled the trigger and shot himself in his hand. Yep, one in the chamber

What idiot leaves one in ?

I always have one in the chamber. With that said, I would take the magazine out and remove my chambered round in order to show off my gun.

So are vendors allowed to have loaded firearms on them? Why would that be allowed? I dont trust alot of the vendors at the show any more than I would trust the people off the street when it comes to safe gun handling

I don't think there are any special provisions for dealers or vendors. I saw a vendor at the last show who had his sidearm holstered. It visibly had no magazine, so I assumed it didn't have a round chambered either.

As stated above, it is against city ordinance to carry at the Jacobs Building, so even vendors aren't exempt from that.

I've often wondered the same thing...what would people do if they heard a gunshot at a gunshow. I'd expect people to hit the deck.
