1911 gunsmith

Joe,

Bob Howard at Predator Custom in Knoxville will build one at least the equal of your Wilson.

Bob did 3 carry guns for me. I sold one when I was broke, the other two were stolen. I've had a Wilson. The next high end 1911 will be built by Bob.

I have a half dozen $2000.00+ 1911s. I am on a self-imposed strike for awhile....

The gunsmith who was with Guncraft before the went out of business is Shannon Jennings, who is at Coal Creek Armory now.

Bob was with Guncraft, with Shannon, several years before Guncraft went out of business and then left to go to Predator.

I knew his name was Bob, did not know the surname. He worked on several guns for me back when Guncraft shot IPSC on Saturday nights. It was convenient for me to drop them off before the match and pick them up the next month. He built Bill William's Para Ordnance P14.It was super accurate and reliable even when not cleaned for nearly 1K rds.

2.5 inch groups? at how far?

How is that better than my Wilsons that group 1" at 25 yards?

Added:

I am 100% in favor of trying new things just for the sake of doing it, but I have to ask WHY would you want to run a 1911 in .357Sig?

Hell, Sig Sauer doesnt even like selling their pistols in that caliber anymore...

A customer of ours, a competition shooter, wanted his CCA 1911 built in that caliber so that's what we built him. It will shoot far better than 2.5" but that's the "industry quote" these days.

That's why he gets to build my next high end 1911. I shot one of his race guns, then had him build me a carry gun. The first thing he did was talk about my expectations and what I wanted to do with my gun. Then he built what I needed instead of what I though I wanted at the start of the conversation. Even managed to save me some money along the way.

Why is this?

Cost?

Lack of interest?

your thoughts?

.357 support and hype is on the decline.

Companies like Sig are offering less guns chambered in this round, and we see .357 Glocks/XDs/Sigs/Smith M&Ps being traded in like crazy for like or similar guns chambered in 9/40/45.

I think people are starting to realize that you can get similar or better ballistics out of calibers that cost less to shoot.

Here it comes... +1 :D

I'll add...with less muzzle blast and recoil.

I've never had a use for the .357 SIG.

That must be a Winchester thing.

We've noticed a huge increase in .357sig pistol sales over the past 8 months. Where we used to sit and look at them growing old in the case, now we can't seem to get them off of the UPS truck fast enough.

And according to our rep at Sig, they have no plans to phase them out, as stated earlier in this thread, since they're making them as fast as they can sell them as well.

This is a great forum and I'm new.

I'm looking for a 'smith to work on my P10 and I went to the Guns & Leather web site but didn't see Jeff listed on the staff page.

Is he still there? I'm in Franklin and I need to drop it off this weekend.

Thanks,

ND70

I would have to give a +2 for Bob Howard. He has worked on 2 raceguns and a production gun for me. Also don't forget Mark Dye. He currently works for Hamilton Bowen and that speaks alot in itself. His 6" Limited gun is un-real.
