Ruger 10-22 Mod Question

If you are willing to drop some $$$....I would take a look at this barrel: http://shootersdiscount.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=1185

Chamber may be a little tight for bulk crap ammo, but as long as you dont mind shooting decent ammo (wolf, sk, eley, cci, etc) you should get impressive results. It is also prethreaded if you decide to go for a supressor, and they have said there will be interchangable sleeves if you want to give it a cosmetic change down the road. You also get the light weight from the aluminum sleeve, without requiring the fluted look, while still retaining the bull barrel style.

Then again, there are guys shooting RIDICULOUSLY small groups using rechambered factory barrels so....

Good bedding of the stock/barrel will make a huge difference in the quality of the groups.

Heh... this is rather ironic. I was just working on our 10/22 tonight installing a buffer pin and a Volquartsen extractor and increased power extractor spring. Hopefully these things will solve the jamming problem it was having. Guess we'll see this weekend. :D

Cool. I kind of doubt it was, though. The extractor claw looked a little handicapped and we've tried several types of ammo in the past. Not ruling it out entirely, but I'm hoping that this fixed it.

I've noticed that lots of people have 10/22's! This particular thread is a wealth of information.

heck, I've never fooled with 10/22's before. I've had to work on the ruger mini-14's before...but never worked on rimfire stuff.

I'm glad to see that you guys have!!!

I'll take a look at that barrel..I like that entire site btw...

they're selling sig 9mm's for cheap over there too for the sig fans....look in the pistols' section.

That site is now a part of my bookmarks.

I spoke to my wife about building another 10/22. she said.."sure you can build yourself one". I then showed her a stock I was thinking about and she pouted and said "I know why you want to build one, you're going to make one prettier than mine!" I didnt say anything since I figure she'll take the one she likes the most anyhow.

The way I see it. If you are a gun advocate, shooter, hunter, or like to tinker with things...you will have missed out on a lot of good times if you have never owned a 10/22.

However readers -beware- of the newer ones as Ruger has decided to replace many the parts with plastic. Just a warning before any of you get your hopes up and rush out to get yourself a new one. Bad call IMHO

Agreed. Then again, used one pop up in pawn shops and gun shops all the time.

Since everything can be tuned or replaced with a fancier part (titanium anyone?), there's no reason to get a cosmetically deficient rifle to build on.

You could do something like this:

Removed the excess wood with a barrel inletting tool but can be done with a deep socket and sandpaper.
