National Guard Armory carry

Recommended Posts

Well, I can't speak to all armory locations but the Houston Barracks is the headquarters and has multiple/varied buildings including the main command center for TEMA. I don't know that entry is as restrictive as, say, Fort Campbell but entry is definitely controlled.

Understood. It's just I've really only seen the ones around here in small towns. They're not any headquarters or command center for anything. Most of the time they are empty except the 1 or 2 full-time guard members that are there and during drill.

incident I remember from my guard days. One of our troops was also a city PD. He came to drill in uniform after having finished a night shift. Changing uniforms he put his duty weapon in his locker in the armory and was given an Art. 15 at the next drill for having a personal weapon in the armory.

They must have had beef with him because our PD guys(especially the senior guys) were often asked to concealed carry around the Armory.

I go to the one in Smryna every now and again for work. I've never seen a sign. I saw a vehicle getting searched time before last, so I started leaving my EDC at home, just in case. Then last time, I asked the civilian guard at the gate and he said, no, guns not allowed, BUT, he also said we have a safe and you can check it in with us and retrieve it when you leave. Something to consider. I will probably try that when I go back next time.

Several have made comments that they had checked weapons at the gate at this installation in the past. They said if you are concerned about the appearance of your weapon don't bring it as the guards aren't careful in storing them.

The occassions I've gone there for training, it was stated in the orders from our CG, that weapons were not permitted.

Well, I've carried there a number of times, never seen a sign prohibiting carry and never had a problem ;)

Where did you get this info from? I've never heard of such.

Got a memo not too long ago, MG Hargis (who is no longer the AG) put out that person weapons are not allow. But you can carry up to a 6" knife

I don't recall seeing a sign at Houston Barracks.
