Absolutely!!! I have already written my representative in the House asking him to either sponsor a companion bill or sign on as a co-sponsor. I have SPECIFICALLY asked for a "YES" or "NO". It is time to get to work. Every representative in the House needs to hear from us regardless of what Speaker Harwell says.

Also Ron Ramsey in the Senate needs to hear from us to support this bill.

I know how much people would like to see a Vermont carry bill but right now this needs to be the bill we push this year. I really feel this is a do or die year for us on this issue so let's get those cards, letters, emails and phone calls going.

This is a very good bill because it looks like it would eliminate being able to post parking lots against firearms (aka: Malls and what not.)

I understand your previous posistion as well....it would be different if an employer didn't provide a place to park...but if they provide a place for you to park your car, they ought to allow you have anything in the car that is legal for you to have.

I haven't read/seen the actually rulings yet, but some members of SCOTUS said that one reason LE couldn't put GPS devices on your vehicle is because it is private property.

So if it is private property that requires a warrant for the gov to track it, if I shoot someone trying to break into it (while I'm in it) I have the presumption of fear just as if they were breaking into my house....then I don't see why I shouldn't be able to leave it in my vehicle when at work. Or for that matter why one needs a permit to have a firearm in their car..... but that is another fight I guess.

Considering this is a senate bill I emailed Ramsey and Tracy, and copied Harwell and Sparks. At leaset Tracy has a history of answering emails. Sparks has never responded to the last email.

Just noticed that. Also noticed that Evans has signed on as House sponsor for Campfield's watered-down big-money-condescending version (SB 2941).

I've contacted my area Reps about supporting 2992/3002...will anxious await hearing back from them. One is very reliable about responding: the other, not so much after we disagreed about his stance in last sessions HB 2021 fiasco. He wanted the politically motivated pseudo-victory that had no teeth and no benefit other than his being able to say, "See, I supported a gun bill!"

Now, without a doubt, this will land in the laps of the House Judiciary Committee. This is the same committee that steered Josh Evans into tanking and watering down his bill last year. All the members of this committee and the sub-committee need to be bombarded with emails in support of Eddie Bass' bills. Remember, they are just as likely to NOT support it because they don't want a Democrat to steal their thunder even though it is a MUCH better bill than Campfield's.

First job if we want this to go anywhere, is to gain Republican Co-sponsors. My Rep. Jimmy Eldridge has already signed on, we need a bout 30 more to make the Bills stick.

I have sent emails to my Rep and Sen also the House and Senate Speakers as well as contacted them by whatever social media they may use as well.

So if I'm reading this right it also applies to 39-17-1309 properties? If so does it also provide protection against be prosecuted under 39-17-1309, or just against employer/property owner policies against firearms in cars?

Not a dumb question. First you should contact YOUR representatives in The Tennessee General Assembly, both House and Senate. If you do not know who they are, you can find out easily by going to the Tennessee General Assembly web site at:

http://www.capitol.tn.gov/ . On that page, in the lower right hand side you will find "Find My Legislator". Type in your street address and city and click "search". That will take you to a page with both your Senator and Representative with contact information.

With the Senate bill now passed the committee and is set to go to the floor, contacting your Senator is the best thing you can do now for the Senate side. As for the House, both bill still have to make it through the sub-committee and committee before they can get to the floor.

On that same Tennessee General Assembly home page, at the top, you will find a pull down menu for "Committees". Pull that down and click on "House". That will take you to a page listing all the House committees and sub-committees. These two bills are in the Consumer and Employee Affairs sub-committee and will advance to the full committee.
