Yeah I did the ole ring and run (we have a different name for it) to one of my high school teachers. We were filming it to put it in the credits of our video project. I was the dumbass that said I'd sit in the bushes and hold the camera. Well her ex-husband came out with a shotgun (after my friend rang and ran) and put it in my face. I told him who I was, what I was doing, he went back inside yelling at his wife, I probably ran a 3.8 40 yard dash as soon as I had the chance. We were and still are good friends with the teacher, we figured her ex-husband wouldn't be home since we've been over there to watch MNF. The next day in class she told us that he came out with a handgun after we were gone and we watched the video in class. Pretty wild. However my lesson was learned. Just when we were all young we have the "it won't happen to me". God that has a bad taste coming out.

Kids need guidance, not a friend, they have the rest of their life to be your friend, give them structure and a good background and they will go far....

I agree and didn't mean to suggest that I don't discipline my kids... I do. I've found that the 4yr old responds better to "that hippie stuff" than me immediately getting pissed. I try to be more positive and more encouraging than my Dad was. My sister and I even joke about how Dad's standard answer to any report card (we both made A's and B's) was... "there's room for improvement". After a while, the frustration of "nothing is ever good enough" begins to set in. Failure isn't good, but better to have tried (really, really hard) and failed, than never to have tried at all.
