Ford F150 .4L oil filter change

I have an '04 F150 with the 5.4L and the engine oil filter is in less than optimum spot (there are kits to move the filter, but I think they only work up thru the 04 models.) Guys with the 4x4 have an even tougher job. A quick way I finally found it to remove the top air intake (one bolt), push it out of the way, and you can reach the filter to break it loose from the top side.

Once I figured that out, piece of cake (good things no penalties for swear words!).

Don't know if you have this truck but if so you know what I mean on the oil filter. Good luck!

Cheers,

Barry

I just take my '03 F150 to the nearest quick lube. It takes five minutes for them to do it, where it would take me the better part of an hour. It's worth the $30.

I had no trouble reaching the filter on my '07 F150 5.4L. I use the socket-style oil filter wrench.

Oh my Gosh, plugs and coil packs are a nightmare.

try it on a lightning with a supercharger in the way, then it gets real fun

The plugs in the 5.4 trucks from 04-08 are known to break in the heads and require removal of the head to fix.

there are kits out there to repair it without pulling the head off, but they can be a PITA

I have the 08 F150 and have not changed the oil yet. I need to this weekend so thanks for the tip if it's the same design.

...ummm what? How is your truck still running? Do you never drive it? Or you haven't changed it since you've purchased it?
