semi auto or what? You can get a lot of rifle for $500-$1k in a bolt gun while that would net you very little toward a high end a semi-auto. Comes down to what it is for -- caliber, range, and so on. If you spend as much on the optic as the rifle, which is a rule of thumb that some people go by, that nets you a decent gun and a very good scope... anyway, more details?

2 grand won't even get him a seat at the table compared to the rifle/optics combinations on that dvd. :)

I'd probably work out a deal with DLM for pallet load of reloading items. I don't own the best, but I am happy with the rifles I have. I'd be even happier with enough ammo to wear them out:)

How about buy a Schmidt and Bender or US Optics base model and put it on one of my beater 10/22's? The rifle wouldn't be precision, but my misses wouldn't be because I had trouble seeing the target.

I'd do what I have already done. Get a Remington 700P .308 and add optics and a bipod. Then save up for a choate stock and add it. Now I am getting the barrel threaded for adding an AAC 51t Muzzle Brake along with getting a phoenix bolt knob. Soon I will be repainting the gun (not the stock though) and getting a new stock (either manners or AICS) with bottom metal for a magazine. And later I will be adding a better optic and a sound surpressor.

I would attach pics but my gun is in the shop. Big Iron Munitions is doing the barrel threading and bolt knob right now.

Total spent: $800 for rifle, $200 for scope, $200 for choate stock, $100 for bipod, $550 for threading muzzle break and bolt knob

planned upgrades: $1000 (Manners stock with bottom metal), $1500 Nightforce scope, $250 Atlas Bipod, $850 AAC Surpressor

Plan to sell: $150 Original scope, $150 choate Stock with bipod

I hope this inspires someone... :)

hmm what would I do...

I would let my wife buy something, I think. Probably get her an AR in something in the neighborhood of 243 with a high dollar scope. Or, if we can buy anything (not just a rifle), would split it with her and get us each a new pistol (mine would be the sig 938).

well 2k is not a lot but to me it depends what kind of presision you are talking, 2K would do the job on a great 22RF NRA silhouette gun.

what i have is more of a general purpose type, 2K i do not think covered the tab even though i already had most of the parts. the mount and scope are almost 1K and it is nothing fancy. picture provided by Allycat. you can read about it in 1k and my AR. and yes the suppresser does get the group size down.

If I had the 2k I wouldnt bother with a build I would run with the Savage 110 BA in 300 win, ofcourse you wont get any glass with that. If I wanted a complete rifle with glass I would probably go with a Savage 10 FCP-K in 308 for 700-ish change out the stock to a Bell and Carlson and then you should have $800 to $1000 left for glass.

Agreed, but I would go Savage 110 in .338 Lapua, then buy a scope later.

This was my exact thought when I first opened the thread up.They did a comparision of it to a steyer 338 and it was extremely close in comparision.
