Need some powder advice

Looking for some powder for loading 45acp. I've been using titegroup but my powder thrower has a hard time doing small amounts. I've been loading 3.9 grains with 230gr jhp. Problem is it is almost impossible to throw it that small consistent. Looking for something that fills the case more so visual will be easier. Any suggestions?

I have been using Power Pistol for a while now and really like it. It meters well and fills the case about 1/3-1/2 the way. Makes it easy to see if something isn't right.

I have also used Longshot it filla the case pretty well also. If you are using lead bullets Trail Boss is a very fluffy powder as well.

I tried today w PP 230g Berrys, 6.6G PP w a 1.25 OAL.........was too snappy,bought a box

of house loads from the range and it was a little lighter, more manageable so I came home

and lowered my recipe to 6.3g and gonna try that.......in 9mm and 40sw PP is great but for 45ACP

im not 100% yet on it,still finding my way... I am also wondering if I should go to a lighter bullet

as I see many guys load lighter bullets

One of my pet loads for 45 was a 200g cast over AA#5. A little over 8g. I'd have to look in my log book for the actual charge. It ran like a swiss clock.

I use 6.0gr of Unique with a 200gr LSWC and it meters and fills the case well. I also like Winchester 231. It too fills the case well and meters even better than Unique.

my old IPSC load was 5.7 of 231 behind a 200 H&G 68 (900 fps.) and the same charge behind a 230 FMJ gave me 830

My Bullseye load was 4.2 of Bullseye with the same 200 LSWC and grouped at 50 yds. pretty well from an old Gold Cup.

What Powder thrower are you using ? perhaps we can offer some "tweaks" to the measure to help you.. the Dillon benefits from a polish and a dryer sheet ( wards off static cling and clumping )

Some say Titegroup is the old Winchester Super Lite which I have burned copious amounts of in my 10mm and didn't find a metering problem but I will admit I was throwing 6.0 + grains at a time through a Dillon powder measure..

I use 5.2 g of Titegroup with a 185g bullet. Velocity is about 900fps. Accuracy is good, recoil okay to a little snappy.

I use this in my G21SF(mild recoil) and my G36(recoil a little snappy).

I have also used Accurate #5 with good results.

My 2 favorites for 45 ACP

4.5 grains Titegroup under a Hornady 230 grain FMJ RN

5.0 Grains of 231 under Same round as above

Im using the Lee pro auto disks and the .40 disk throws 4.5 grains of titegroup every time

cant remember which disk for the 231 but will check when i get home.

I have had really good luck with accurate powders when using a lee disk powder device. The small, ball like grains are fairly consistent. #5 is a good choice for 45, #7 would really fill the case up. While I like the power pistol powder, it does NOT meter out well in this device and I end up with a huge variation between rounds and unacceptable accuracy. If I hand weigh the charges, the power pistol does great.
