I finally got my P220 to the range this morning. I bought it a few weeks ago and made one modification -

I put some Hogue G-10 textured grips on the pistol. Wow, they are sticky.

So here is what I shot this morning -

50 rounds Remington "clean burning" 230 gr. FMJ

20 rounds Blazer aluminum 230 gr. FMJ

30 rounds WWB 230 gr. FMJ

15 rounds Ranger Talon 230 gr. JHP

15 rounds Asym 230 gr. JHP

There were zero malfunctions; no FTF; no FTE, no failing of the slide to fully go into battery. The pistol just went "BANG!" each time I pulled the trigger. I believe giving it a good cleaning and lube job before shooting the pistol for the first time helped.

Again, i am amazed at how accurate the Sig P-series pistols are. Way more accurate than me. I really had no idea how this pistol would perform. I've never shot a P220 before and my only experience with .45 ACP calibers was with 1911s. Needless to say, I am duly impressed. The beavertail frame lets me get a high hold on the grip. The extra 7 ounces or so of weight from the stainless frame helps with muzzle flip and recoil. And the SRT makes rapid fire and double-taps easy.

I think it is a keeper.icon14.png

Sweet P220. I've only shot one that belonged to someone else. Every first shot(DA) hit the bullseye. The rest were close, but I still can't believe I watched him trade it in for a HKUSP Expert. Which I hated. Enjoy your 45, thanks for posting.

had my eyes on the carry version of this very gun for awhile now but can't seem to get over want for a 1911, which do you enjoy shooting more, the p220 or your 1911's?

Honestly, I've only shot one 1911 (Sig 1911 TACOPS), and I traded it for the P220. When I receive my bonus in February, I've got my eyes on an Ed Brown.

I like the longer line of sight on the 1911s, which gives me better accuracy in precision shooting, but my defensive training is with point shooting. I am evenly accurate with both pistols in point shooting. The recoil and muzzle flip seem similar - they are both great to shoot. The P220 will carry easier than a full size 1911 though, because of the 4.4 inch barrel and the rounded main spring housing.

Don't get me wrong. I really, really wanted to just buy the P220 and then get another EB 1911. However, the wife kind of reminded me of our current economic situation.

Got a 229 Stainless Elite recently. Love it. It also came with the rosewood grips. That was the first thing I rid of. (Dang their thick) I like the G10s but I always have to sand them if I'm going to use them on a CCW. My shirts stick to them badly. And in the summer they will pick a hole in a dri-wick shirt real quick.
