My Boberg XR9-S ... The Bullpup Handgun !!!

Well,

I waited 15 months & 1 day for these to arrive. I learned a good bit of patience and was pleasantly surprised with the end result.

Manufactured by Boberg Arms, up in Minnesota. Fully USA Manufactured & Assembled. Arne the owner is a great guy! These are by no means cheap, but probably the best quality firearms I've ever owned. They operate much like a bullpup ... Here's a picture better explaining it.

I'll be taking her to the range tomorrow and will let ya'll know how she did.

I have read up on them a lot over the last week or two. I really like the design.I am looking for a smaller carry gun and wouldn't mind having a unique gun such as these.

I don't mind sharing. They were $949/each + about $28 in shipping/per. The waiting list is currently at I believe 12 months? Something around there. He is ramping up production more and more -- I have serial #'s UNDER 200 I was a bit "ridiculed" when I purchased 3, but ehhh ... whatever They surely won't drop in value within the next 1-2 years! haha

I didn't think I would ever spend this much on a handgun (outside of some higher end 1911's), but after holding one, putting it side by side with a glock 26 (that has roughly the same size barrel) and looking at how small it is compared to it, my fears of over paying were gone The fit & finish is bar none, amazing. It puts any gun I've owned previously to shame.

That's going to be tough to force yourself to load a magazine backwards. I wonder how many people try to shoot it with the magazines loaded the other way?

It's interesting to say the least. Don't leave us hanging, go shoot one and post some results. Thousand dollars isn't astronomical if the thing shoots good. Seeing the engineering involved, i'm surprised they're that cheap actually.

Yeah, it through me off at first, until you realize, you can't load it the other way. Rim on the casing stops it, so you can only load it this one way which is nice

Will definitely keep the thread updated They've since raised the price $50 since I bought it -- They're at $999 now, but since I was on the waiting list since 2010, I got the $949 price

Introducing a new type of firearm from a new manufacture and asking over $1,000 would probably be a bit tough. I have no doubt they may in the future -- especially with the other types they plan to come out with, but just going - and releasing a firearm like this in a down economy, I think its priced about right

One funny (actually sad) thing about getting these -- The awesome guys at D&T sat on hold for an hour trying to get a background check for the firearms, since no option for "Boberg Arms" was in the computer Luckily it didn't take anything more than a phone call!

Trigger pull is quite smooth. Comparable to Kahrs with a bit more take up and 1-2 lbs heavier. Better than my LCP that's for sure.

My Lengthy Review:

Alright ...

I have a total of 250 rounds through my carry Boberg, and after shooting it quite a few ways, here's my review.

1) The Boberg outshoots me.

2) I've had ZERO issues, and I haven't cleaned it yet. She is getting completely broken down today so I can clean it and learn more about the function.

3) Shot 3 different types of ammo

a) Federal Champion (Wally World - Advised not to - but still did) = Zero Issues

White Box (Wally World) = Zero Issues

c) Rem JHP Green Box (Wally World) = Zero Issues

I shot the cheapest ammo I had and had zero issues. I can only assume I won't have issues with some of my more expensive defensive rounds.

The recoil is like nothing I have ever felt before. The pistol seems to take up all recoil, and I could literally sit there and shoot for hours without any sort of hand fatigue. The recoil itself feels different ... Its like a lapping type recoil. VERY strange the first couple magazine I put through it. Strange in a good way, not bad way. In my LCP, I tend to compensate for the recoil by preparing myself. I did with the Boberg at first as well, but didn't need to.

My LCP will soon be on the chopping block. I have zero desire to try and find any other pocket 9, because this does everything and then some. It honestly is the funnest gun I have ever owned. I enjoy shooting it more than my XD's which is saying something. I just can't get enough of the recoil -- It really is AWESOME feeling!

My only CON is this: The trigger is a bit heavy (Not J Frame/SP101 heavy) -- Just a bit heavier as compared to Kahrs & LCP's I've shot. Very little slack (which is good) -- But relatively heavy. I plan to contact Arne Boberg to see if there is a way to lighten it up a bit. Even if there isn't, this Boberg will never leave my possession.
