According to Steve Atterson at Shelby Farms, the people that were shooting trap were a high school group and they have a contract that will probably not be renewed. The Boy Scouts also have some things going on over there on occassion but that is something that will probably not be continued.

Hikers on the trails that run behind the range complained enough and budgetary concerns were what lead to the demise of the range. In other words (in my opinion) Hippies and Politicians Pockets won out over our ability to go shooting in the sun.

He told me that there would probably NEVER be rifle shooting over there again and the Master Planning for the park was coming up soon.

So, how do we petition Shelby County Sherrif's Office to allow us to use their range.

Im not sur eon how to do it either, but we need to find out. That would be a good addition to the ranges in West TN!

Call the Sheriff's office and hit up the planning committees. This is stuff we need to discuss when we all get together.

Yest it is SSS!

Sad to hear that this has been closed for the most part. I shot my first firearm there at that range. I took many trips there over the years when I still lived in the armpit of Tennessee.

I'd really doubt that ANY civilian group would EVER get permission to use a range operated for the Sheriff's dept there in Shelby county or much of anywhere else for that matter. It's about turf, liability, etc. Good luck and hope someone can get that open to responsible civilians but I'd doubt it.
