Planning a trip to DC in may for the National Police officer Memorial week to see the names of 2 Police officers we have lost in Dickson this year on the law enforcement officers memorial wall.

every state from here to there honers TN HGP dc does not, i know i cant carry while in DC but

does anyone know a site i could check in English lol that tells about transporting a firearm while in DC we will be on motorcycles

and plan on having weapon in saddlebags while in DC

I assume unloaded with weapon in one bag and ammo in another bag neither of which are able to be gotten to while in motion would be ok but want to make sure.

Thanks

Not claiming knowledge, just caution....

A buddy of mine travels up there all the time. He says *no* to possession in District.

Go early, get a hotel in VA, leave the gun in hotel room safe before crossing border to DC.

I'm with Bert. According to handgunlaws.us:

DC ST § 22-4504.02

District of Columbia Official Code 2001 Edition

Division IV. Criminal Law and Procedure and Prisoners.

Title 22. Criminal Offenses and Penalties. (Refs & Annos)

Subtitle VI. Regulation and Possession of Weapons.

Chapter 45. Weapons and Possession of Weapons. (Refs & Annos)

§ 22-4504.02. Lawful transportation of firearms.

(a) Any person who is not otherwise prohibited by the law from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm

shall be permitted to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully

possess and carry the firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry the firearm if the

firearm is transported in accordance with this section.

(:D(1) If the transportation of the firearm is by a vehicle, the firearm shall be unloaded, and neither the

firearm nor any ammunition being transported shall be readily accessible or directly accessible from the

passenger compartment of the transporting vehicle.

(2) If the transporting vehicle does not have a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the

firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console,

and the firearm shall be unloaded.

© If the transportation of the firearm is in a manner other than in a vehicle, the firearm shall be:

(1) Unloaded;

(2) Inside a locked container; and

(3) Separate from any ammunition.

Note: This is for transporting firearms through DC but if you are traveling and going through DC it is

actually out of your way in most instances. I would not travel inside the Beltway around DC. The beltway is

outside DC and is actually in the surrounding states but is a good boundary marker to keep from going into

the District.

It sounds like you can transport if you're passing through but I'd be willing to wager that having it in your locked side bags in a locked case that can only be unlocked with a cypher similar to what it takes to launch a submarine based nuclear missile would still not satisfy the D.C. police.

According to the Firearm Owners Protection Acts "Safe Passage" Provision, I would also lock your weapon in a "locked container". I'll add the link to what I found. Doesn't sound like they play nice. The sad part is that I have never been any place in my life that I felt like I might need my weapon more than I did in DC...... Good luck and have a safe ride !!! I would opine that the FOPA probably doesn't even apply in this situation, and only DC law matters.

DC is a destination, one end of the travel, not a stop along the way.

I would also opine that DC LE would see it this way too, that neither the FOPA nor its own above cited ordinance which parrots it apply.

If it did, tourists couldn't be arrested in NYC or NJ for possession, either. But of course they can, even for unloaded weapons properly cased. It does seem that travelers arrested due to being rerouted and stranded in those places in airline terminals while on the way through would have been struck down on FOPA grounds, but even that hasn't happened yet.

The Previous Sheriff where i work Lost his son THP Trooper Andy Wall on may 7th while escorting the Thunderbird Pilots to an airshow in Smyrna,

then on June 6th one of our Deputies Keith Bellar rolled up on what he thought was a traffic accident but turned out to be a domestic where the woman's husband had ran her off the road Keith pulled up as the a$$hole was getting out of his truck and he fired 12 rounds into Keith's Windshield Striking him once in the head, he then walked over to his wife's car told her look at me she looked up and he killed himself, Keith Died the following morning on the 7th of June 1 month to the day of Trooper Andy Wall.

Sorry to hear both of these stories.

Hope you all have a safe ride.

I didn't check your profile........Are you a LEO? I THINK this would change things drastically.

Correct. Active or retired LEOs are able to carry concealed in DC. They generally aren't allowed to carry in federal buildings. When entering, the LEO must declare the weapon and show credentials. They will let you check your weapon while you are there.

I am not a Post certified Officer, I am the I.T. Director for the Sheriff's Office, so I would not be covered under LEOSA..I dont have a problem not being able to carry while there

just wanted to make sure what the rules where about transporting, hadn't thought about the Hotel Rooms with the mini Safes gonna call around Quantico today to find a hotel

that does have them.
