You can use just about anything. Most of the range bags I have seen usually come with one or two padded sleeves inside you can put your guns in if you choose not to carry them in their cases...or you can use a gym bag if you want to put the pistol case in....one thing I would look for is a really strong handle with good stitching around it, those range bags can get heavy with guns and ammo.

The one I have came from Gander Mountain. It has the fleece lined sleeves (which I don't use). I just put the pistols in the bag case and all. This particular bag will hold two full size pistol cases 5-6 boxes of ammo and my ear muffs. Cost like 30 bucks.

You may want to look for something that is water repellant or at least won't get soaked by the rain...it probably doesn't need to be Kevlar coated Gore-Tex or anything unless you are outside a lot. You can always get fancy and order a bag from your favorite gun maker, most of them have them on their web sites. Personally I would look for functionality over fanciness.

I use a 17 inch gym bag I bought off of ebay new for around 20 bucks(actually I got two bags for 10 apiece). Its large enough for four hand guns, ammo, ears, extra mags, mag loaders, plus a few other small items with room to spear. Not a bad deal for just 10 bucks

I use a Stanley tool bag that I bought at Wal-Mart for $20. It's strong, so I don't wory about loading it down with 50lb of ammo, and has pockets perfectly sized for rifle and pistol magazines.

I use the Free NRA bag that they sent a while back to new members. I had let my membership run-out and when they came a calling I told them I wanted the stuff the newmembers would be getting, so I signed up for 2 years, and got a very nice small range bag for free.

Befor that I just used a gym bag. A good friend of mine uses a Stanley Toolbox, you know the black plastic one witht he two yellow top compartments...about $20 at Wal-Mart.

Last range trip I had 200 rounds of 9mm, 100 rounds of .380, 100 rounds of .45, 200 rounds of .22, a Ruger P89 in its case, a Bersa Thunder .380 in its holster, a 1965 Ruger Stanard .22 in its holster, and two pair of head phones....in the main compartment + the small traveling gun cleaning kit & small tool set in the ide compartments. Needless to say, but I think I had that little bag at its max.....I then realized, I might need a bigger bag, or just take less guns.

I use a tank bag that I have from when I used to ride sportbikes. Works great for up to three guns and all accessories.

Black&Decker outlets have a few tool bags in the $5-$10 range with solid bottoms and lots of pockets.

I use a Maxpedition backpack, the Condor II. I carry it everyday, in the car usually, but it works as my range bag too. Never know when I might stop by the range and shoot a little. I keep about 200 rounds of ammo, eye/hearing protection, and some other stuff. The backpack also has a chamber in the back that can be used as a conceal carry spot, which I do have one of the maxpediton holsters in it, but that compartment can also be used as a hydration system holder, 100oz. It has a chest strap and a waist strap to keep it secure if you are hiking, biking or some other activity. I don't ride motorcylces, but guys that have seen it, like it, because of the waist strap stopping the pack from riding up around your neck.

I used an old backpack before, but cheap stuff seems to rip and pull apart at the seams, this pack is freak'n strong.

What, you don't go to the mall like that? You do live in Memphis!

Most range bags I looked at a few years ago seemed a little steep for me.

I looked in the fishing section of Sports Academy a few years ago and they had some tackle bags on sale. I got this one for about 16 bucks.

It came with some plastic tackle box stuff as well. (Gave them away.) While looking at it the sales guy was trying to help me and asked what kind of fishing I did. I told him I didn't fish and he said "Ahhhh.. your a shooter huh?" Turns out he said sees a few guys coming in and buying these for range bags.

Works good for me. Shoulder strap and double sewn handles, the main compartment has the heavy duty zippers that you can put a small lock on (only good for keeping

kids out), the two sides can hold eight 50rd boxes in each side, plus about three pistols

in the middle compartment plus my other junk. (Strap comes in handy when fully

loaded.) It doesn't have the cool mag holders and stuff like that.... but suits me well.

Also it doesn't "look" like a range bag. That is something that I like too.

(I also use an old portable diaper changing mat that folds up small as a pistol rug. )

Creeky that is a good idea.

I really didn't like using a gym bag because it seemed like all my stuff was just scattered around, and now this small NRA bag I have is.... well a little to small. But your setup looks nice. I might have to check into the tackle box/bag idea.

hi,

i didn't feel that a gym bag was strong and secure enough. the tool bag worked pretty well for one gun and some gear. i finally ended up buying both sizes of the 'sig sauer' bags. they are 'top notch' quality and design and have seperate compartments for several guns and gear. --very happy with them !

although a bit pricey, if you're carrying a couple of 'grand' worth of guns, the extra cost isn't that much by comparison.

just my $.02 worth.

thanks,

i use a sturdy gym bag. always carry the pistols in their tupperware, 2 sets of ears and glasses, targets, ammo and it all fits nicely and probaly doesn't look as tempting to BG's as a Colt, or S&W bag sitting in the back of a SUV.

I use a small overnight bag I got from Walgreens for like 15 bucks. Has enough room for 2-3 pisols, plenty of room for mags and about 500 rds ammo.

Not a bad price for a bag that size.
