Question about selling online

The backbone of online sales is full disclosure when describing your item IMO.

I bought an item that was described as Factory New. Upon further conversation about said item the seller explains how the item was bought for/by someone else, mounted, taken off and reboxed.

That is not my definition of Factory New, to me new means new. I am the orginial owner, I paid the price I paid based on a description that was given.

What say you?

NEW is new....I would call what you are referring to an NEW (repackaged)...but as with ALL things purchased."let the buyer beware"...if you want NEW be willing to pay NEW price and get it from the manufacturer or liecenced dealer....not Joey PAYPAL Bagodonuts garage sale.

If an item has been taken out of the package and replaced undamaged it's a new product. We are not talking about collectible GI Joe dolls that drop 50% when the package tape is cut. I always tell someone how much use a product has and I would have said it was mounted, but if the items is mounted and repackaged wihout a scratch, it's a new product.

My grip is that if you are not telling me the history in the item description what else are you not telling me?

I expect an item described as Factory New not to have a history. It's just as easy to include the actual history in the description, than choosing to leaving it out.

Why leave it out? What else are you not telling me?

Many people sell items as brand new even if they "test for function." I always assume this when I purchase from an individual. If I wanted something that has never been touched at all I go to the manufacturer for the item. I myself currently selling an item that is new in package that was never shrink wrapped but I did put batteries in it and checked it for function. This does not lower the value of the item but makes me sure that what I sell works cause it would look bad on me if I sold another individual a defective item. Just my opinion. :D

The only time I expect something factory new is when I buy it in a sealed box from a dealer.

If I am buying something from a private seller, it is used. Either lightly used or heavily used and the price I pay will depend upon that.

Sometimes when you are selling something it is just easier to say "As New" and then explain to an interested buyer that your cousin's neighbor's best friend's aunt bought it, looked at it and then put it back in the box. If you get into all of that on the first date, folks will easily forget that they are buying a nice item at a nice price, and instead think of a way to jew the price down since someone else's dirty fingers fondled the prize.

Does it really make a difference that two people touched it?

I can understand going to look at something advertised "As New" and then discovering that it had been handed around the locker room after a football game and being upset, but to discover that someone else took it for a test drive before you? No.

That is true because if you buy a NEW CAR from a dealer, atleast someone else drove it before you atleast one time, it doesn't mean

It's not new. What did you buy? Sounds like an optic or a scope. Did you buy it on TGO?
