sawed off 12ga. side-by-side

Recommended Posts

sawed off 12ga. side-by-side, anybody know of anyone that makes one(manufacturer)?

looking for something like this, except without the duct tape. also dont want a pump. i know they make a version of that. think of the western movies, one of them always carried a sawed of double barrrell shotgun, with a pistol grip and about a 6"barrell.

if no one knows of a shortbarrell version, does anybody know of a current production side-by-side that is a normal style, without all the gold and silver accents and engravings? just a normal wood stock and blued barrells, like to find one pretty inexpensive.

why do i want it? because i can.

The barrel has to be 18 in.,also about the only thing you will want to shoot in such a gun is the mini Aguila shot shells.2.5 in shells hurt like hell in one of those.

You can have 6" barrel if you register it as an aow.

which is what i am looking at. if i planned on staying with a 18" barrell, i would just get a remington 870 pump with a 7-shot capacity.

id like to find something that is marketed as a hunting shotgun becuase that is the type of gun im looking to start with, wood stock and blued steel.

that is pretty much what im looking for.

would that not be considered a pistol ?

Only if it had rifling. Otherwise it's an AOW. The problem is that you'll have to find a SxS which came from the factory with a pistol-grip, and have it converted to an AOW by shortening the bbls... if you just take a regular coach gun with a stock, and chop it at both ends, you'll be creating an SBS... the difference is a technicality, but it makes the difference between a $5 tax stamp and a $200 tax stamp.

Unfortunately, at this time the SXS AOW is a no-go. The pump-gun AOWs are built as smoothbore handguns on "virgin" receivers. Nobody currently offers a SXS (or over/under for that matter) receiver on which to build... I wish they did. The only option is to go the $200 stamp SBS route, then you can have the gun of your choice cut to length.

Also FYI, if you build an AOW on a form 1, the stamp is still $200 (don't ask me why). That's why the "home-builders" just build an SBS... you might as well have the option of putting a stock on it, since the money is the same.

what is the shortest overall length allowed for a shotgun WITHOUT it being classified as an AOW or SBS? i know its 18" barrel but what is the over all length limitation?

I believe 26", but can't find a link to show that. Maybe one of the FFLs guys will chime in shortly.

im pretty sure its 18" for the total barrel length, i just need to know what the minimum overall length limit is.

i am correct in assuming that both the barrel length requirement AND the overall length requirement must be met, right? or is it just one or the other?
