jon boat for the Caney and maybe the Harpeth

I'm wondering what people are using to fish on these rivers, something like a 15' waterfowler ? I just want to go toss some flies when they are running on the Caney.

I'm a canoe guy myself, but I haven't been on the Caney or the Harpeth. I have looked into floats on the Caney. If you are looking to buy a boat, take a look at the Gheenoe boats. They are highly maneuverable, light and can get you most places a canoe will go.

I've canoed the Caney a couple of times. Personally, I'd avoid a flatbottom Jon boat. If it's big enough to be stable enough for fluff-chucking, it'll be too big to maneuver in the Caney. A good friend of mine & I have found that solo paddling a decent size canoe is much simpler & more stable. A couple of things to be aware of though, when they hit the button to open the sluices at the dam, the water gets real fast, real quick. The other being the hundreds of pleasure canoers & tubers that want to float along with you. They can be a REAL pain in the a$$.

You might want to look into a cheap drift-boat. If you can make it up to Troutfest when they hold it (I can't remember the dates) you can see & try out a few very nicely priced drifters.

If a canoe/gheenoe etc... isn't your cup of tea, go with a 'V' hulled jon boat (a proper, traditional 'boat shaped' boat. Pointy at the front, flat at the back) they're much more stable in moving water than a flatbottom.

You may also want to look at the NuCanoe. Fiendishly useful looking bit of kit

Canoe is a good choice, but I have a kayak. I got a Jackson Coosa, it'll draft in INCHES of water! And I can very easily stand to fish from it. I fish pretty much anywhere out of it. This one is on the expensive side ( a gift from my wife for our anniversery, I wasn't going to buy it for myself), but BassPro sells a line of Ascend Kayaks that are 9/10'ths as good for 1/2 the cost.

I fish the Harpeth and S. Harpeth all the time!

Thanks, I have a Mad River Freedom The gheenoe looks like what I want for larger water, I do like the kayak idea. The riverhawk looks interesting too. The Riverhawk looks even better, the B-60 with front and read decks.
