I love a story with a happy ending. Eighty-two is a little young for World War II veteran, Korean War maybe.

Regarding the closed door. I have less of a problem with that if it's a half-glassed back door. Burglar with ski-mask, flashlight, hammer and screwdriver, prying on the door.

Normally you don't have a Chief of Police at a crime scene, or get such a clear statement on behalf of the homeowner. Good on the Chief!

I watched the video, I thought the LEO said the burglar “pried open the door with his tools”. Sounds like to me the burglar pooped the door open and the older gentleman shot him through the jimmied door.

Well, if that's the case, somebody buy that old timer a cold beer.

I heard something on the radio the other day that said the youngest living WWII Vet was 84, so you are probably right.

...and maybe trying to encourage a few more good citizens. I posted the link on facebook, and led it off with his comment. I'm happy to help with his recruiting efforts.

The upper half of the door was glass so he actually saw what he was shooting at. Love the guys attitude, he protected himself, did what needed doing and knows he is right. The Police Chief deserves an atta boy as well.
